GASTON — The Patriots were right with the Starfires two days earlier, but came out on the losing end.
The same was true against the Warriors, except they walked off the court victorious.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team defeated the host Wes-Del Warriors on Thursday, 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22.
The victory pushed the Patriots’ record to 11-8 on the year ahead of Tuesday’s Allen County Athletic Conference matchup against Southern Wells.
Senior Abby Barcus posted team highs in kills (26), digs (26) and points (17) while going a perfect 25-for-25 from the service line. Fellow senior Britlyn Dues totaled 12 kills as the only other Patriot to reach double digits.
Chloe Trissel had 25 digs, Kendal Garringer chipped in with 11 and Randi Ferguson totaled 10. Garringer also led the team in assists with 25, and Kailee Denney had 21 assists as well.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 23-25, 25-13, 25-10, to give the Patriots a clean sweep.
Calli Stigleman had a team-high eight kills, with Hallie Fields next with six. Sarah Hemmelgarn had three to go with her six digs. Maggie Pryor totaled 12 digs, and Allison Jobe recorded 20 assists.

Tigers top Patriots
YORKTOWN — The Jay County girls soccer team scored early but couldn’t keep up the pressure in a 5-2 loss Thursday to the Yorktown Tigers.
Kendra Muhlenkamp scored her seventh goal of the season just two minutes into the contest. Alex Bader was credited with an assist on the play.
After the Tigers scored five straight goals — three in the first half — Muhlenkamp assisted on Lucy Laux’s team-leading 11th goal of the year.
Goalkeeper Lilly Rogers made five saves for the Patriots, who are now 8-3 on the season.
Jay County’s junior varsity team won, 4-0. Scoring goals were Anhely Montes, Amanda Ferguson, Mikele Suman and Irene Braun. Shelby Caldwell turned away the only shot she faced.

Stars sweep
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team swept the Winchester Golden Falcons on Thursday, 25-16, 25-21, 25-7.
Madi Wurster led the Starfires (16-5) with 11 kills and shared the team high of 11 digs with Shania Neal. Morgan Alberson chipped in with eight kills, and Caralie Farlow added six kills. 
Julia Grabau had 27 assists, and Addie Wanner added six kills and one block. 
The Starfires’ junior varsity team also won, 25-5, 25-9. Lydia Loshe had six kills, five digs and four assists, with Bella Bailey contributing six assists. Shaelyn Bowman added two kills, two aces and a pair of blocks.

Flyers tame Tribe
MARIA STEIN — The Fort Recovery volleyball team lost its second consecutive conference match on Thursday, falling to the host Marion Local Flyers, 27-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-16.
The loss drops the Indians to 10-4 on the season and 2-3 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Carley Stone led the team with 14 digs. She was 14-of-15 from the service line with a pair of aces, and also had two blocks. Kiah Wendel (12-for-12) and Alexis Bubp (28-for-28) were both perfect from the service line, and added 20 and 27 digs respectively as well.
Wendel chipped in with 10 kills, Cassy Martin had seven and Brooke Gaerke tallied three.
Martin had a team-high nine blocks, and Madi Rammel totaled 32 assists.
