Utility pole struck
A rural Portland woman struck a utility pole with her vehicle Sunday afternoon near Bryant.
Jackie D. Alig, 53, 2674 E. 500 South, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was driving her 2007 GMC Envoy north on U.S. 27, north of the intersection with county road 800 North, when she looked away from the road. Her Envoy traveled off the west side of U.S. 27, striking a utility pole and coming to a stop in a field.
Damage in the 12:30 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Backing accident
A Farmland man and a Portland woman were involved in a car accident Monday afternoon in downtown Portland.
Paul L. Zimmerman, 57, 10629 W. 600 North, told Portland Police Department he was backing a 2011 Ford F350 out of a parking spot at Circle K, 325 N. Meridian St., when he failed to see a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt that was also backing out of a parking space. The F350 driven by Zimmerman struck the Cobalt, driven by Ann L. Turpen, 401 Canterbury Lane Apartment 26.
The F350 is registered to Jay School Corporation. Damage in the 2:08 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
