Starfire squads total 20 victories in sweeping ACAC?foes
BERNE — The Patriot girls edged the Starfires to win their first Allen County Athletic Conference championship last season.
But when it comes to dual meets, the Starfires have the Patriots’ number.
The South Adams High School track teams swept a three-team meet with Jay County and Adams Central on Tuesday.
South Adams’ girls won a dozen events on its way to scoring 80 points. Jay County scored 56 points, and Adams Central was third with 20.
The Starfire boys had eight wins on its way to 69 points. Adams Central totaled 51 points and Jay County tallied 34.
Addie Wanner picked up three victories for the SAHS girls, winning the 100-meter hurdles (15.12 seconds), 300 hurdles (51.34 seconds) and high jump (5 feet, 4 inches).
Caroline Kloepper was the other dual winner, finishing first in the 100 dash (12.7 seconds) and 200 dash (27.5 seconds). Also earning individual wins were Kallee Patch (1,600 run – 5 minutes, 42 seconds), Olivia Von Gunten (800 run – 2:33.62), Eliza Harruff (3,200 run – 13:01.95) and Calyssa Lehman (discus – 92 feet, 4.5 inches).
South Adams also swept all three relays.
Briana Mulenkamp and Taylor Muhlenkamp earned the only victories for Jay County. The former won the 400 dash in 1:06.7, and the latter took shot put with a distance of 30 feet, 6 inches.
Bailey McIntire and Lars In’t Groen each won a pair of events for the South Adams boys. McIntire took care of the 1,600 (4:45) and 3,200 (9:57), while In’t Groen handled discus (129 feet, 1 inch) and shot put (47 feet).
Andreas Martinez (400 dash – 56.5) and Victor Vasquez (800 run – 2:20) also won for the Starfires.
South Adams also won the 4x800 and 4x400 relays.
Andrew Trewyn picked up the only JCHS boys win, jumping a height of 6 feet in high jump.
