The streak has come to an end.

Kyra Braun, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, opened her collegiate tennis career at Trine University with seven consecutive wins.

The freshman has since lost two of her last three matches, as the Thunder dropped contests with Saint Mary’s (9-0) on April 6, Albion (7-2) Sunday and Kalamazoo College (9-0) on Wednesday.

Braun lost her No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0, to Maddie Minaudo of Saint Mary’s. Braun, who is now 8-2 on the season, bounced back with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Albion’s Kirsten Moore at No. 6 singles, before losing 6-3, 6-1 to Alexandria Oswalt of Kalamazoo College.

The Thunder have lost five consecutive matches and are now 2-13 overall and 0-4 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.



Megan Wellman

Jay County – 2016

Competed for the IU women’s rowing team Saturday in a double-dual with Ohio State and Iowa at Lake Lemon outside of Bloomington.

The freshman was part of the third varsity four-member crew. Sitting in the second seat with Ruby Mioduski, Madelyn Hassinger, Caroline Taylor and coxswain Madison Waddle, the Hoosiers were third in the morning session with a time of 8.28.6 seconds.

Ohio State (7:46.4) and Iowa (8:01.6) were first and second respectively.

In the afternoon session, Indiana was third again in 8:44.9, behind Ohio State (7:52.4) and Iowa (8:07.3).

Zane Shreve

Jay County – 2014

Competed for the Miami University men’s track team Friday and Saturday in the Crimson Tide Invitational at Alabama.

Individually, Shreve’s best finish was in the long jump, as he placed 11th with a distance of 6.07 meters. In the javelin throw, he placed 13th with a distance of 36.91 meters. Shreve was also 14th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.89 seconds) and 25th in the 100 dash (11.72 seconds). He helped the 4x400 relay team of Clayton Musick, Jonathan Fee and Christopher Torpy place 10th in 3 minutes, 30.81 seconds.

Colin Affolder

South Adams – 2015

Tallied two hits, two runs and a walk recently for the Bethel College baseball team.

The junior had one hit in a 10-0 victory Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader against Huntington University.

He singled and scored a run Saturday as the Pilots (15-13, 5-11 Crossroads League) lost to University of Saint Francis, 5-3, in the first game of a doubleheader. Affolder then walked and scored a run in the Pilots’ 8-3 loss in the game two.

Jay County – 2014

Continued to appear as a pinch runner for the Huntington University baseball team.

The junior entered as a runner for left fielder Tyler Zimske and came around to score as the Foresters (20-7, 12-2 Crossroads League) won 8-6.



Chandler Ingle

South Adams – 2015

Made a relief appearance for the Goshen College baseball team Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader against Taylor University.

Ingle entered with two outs in the top of the fifth inning with the Maple Leafs (19-19-1, 8-9 Crossroads League) trailing 6-1. He induced a pop fly to end the inning. The Maple Leafs struck for two runs in the home half of the fifth, and in the sixth inning Ingle got the Trojans to go down in order, which included a strikeout. He needed 10 pitches to retire all four batters he faced, but the Maple Leafs lost 6-5.



Jackson Hobbs

Fort Recovery – 2016

Suffered his first career loss for the Edison State Community College baseball team Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader against Sinclair Community College.

Hobbs got the start for the Chargers (11-10). He allowed 13 hits, three of which were home runs. He allowed 11 runs — seven earned — one walk and struck out three in 5 1/3 innings. The Chargers lost, 12-5.



Catherine Dunn

Jay County – 2014

Went hitless in three games recently for the Brescia University softball team.

She was 0-for-2 in a 3-1 loss Saturday during the first game of a doubleheader against IU Southeast. In game two, she was 0-for-2, a 6-3 loss for the Bearcats.

On Sunday, Dunn went 0-for-3 in an 8-2 loss against St. Marys of the Woods.

The Bearcats fell to 11-17 (5-5 River States Conference).



Drew LeFever

South Adams – 2016

Competed for the Taylor University men’s track team in the George Glass Invitational it hosted on Saturday.

He was 10th in discus with a distance of 40.37 meters. His shot put distance of 13.97 meters was 11th, and he placed 26th in hammer throw with a toss of 35.17 meters.
