Poverty simulation to be held at John Jay
Taking Note
Anyone wanting to better understand poverty in our area is invited to a free seminar.
A Community Action Poverty Simulation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, at John Jay Center for Learning, 101 S. Meridian St. in Portland.
The workshop will provide participants the opportunity to assume the role of a person living in poverty to help understand the decisions they make and the fears and frustrations they feel.

Series continues
A DVD series on Winston Churchill continues at John Jay Center for Learning.
The second topic is “On the Empire’s Frontier Political Beginnings” and will be held on April 18.
The next in the series will be April 25 with “Churchill and Controversy Post-War Challenges.”
The six-week series will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and will be facilitated by Richard Kennison, Lt. Col., Retired, USAF.
Visits Statehouse
State Senator Travis Holdman (R-Markle) welcomed area students to the Indiana Statehouse to serve as pages.
Paul Harris of Geneva, a homeschooled student; and Gabe Kruchkow, a student at South Adams Jr/Sr. High School in Berne.
Pages spend a day at the Statehouse, touring the building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with state senators.

MusicWorks recital
Arts Place, Blackford County Arts Center, will have MusicWorks recitals at 3 p.m. on April 30.
The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served after.
