BLUFFTON — Two individuals picked up their first career victories.

It helped the Patriots girls beat the Tigers.

Jay County High School’s girls track team won 10 of 14 events to defeat the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday, 76-47. The Patriot boys lost, 90-33.

Freshman Renee Omstead (400-meter dash) and junior Breea Liette (300 hurdles) won their respective events in 1 minute, 6 seconds, and 54.7 seconds respectively. It was the first career win for each of them.

Lucy Laux won the 100 dash (12.84 seconds) and long jump (15 feet, 4 inches). Gabby Kunkler won the 800 run in 2:59, and joined Erika Kunkler, Kendra Muhlenkamp and Taylor Homan to win the 4x800 relay in 11:19.

Also earning victories were Calli Stigleman and Kendal Garringer. Stigleman won the 200 dash in 27.6 seconds, and Garringer’s height of 4 feet, 8 inches, was best in high jump.

Karli Bullard, Homan, Laux and Stigleman teamed for a win in the 4x100 relay, while Britlyn Dues, Erika Kunkler, Homan and Liette won the 4x400 relay.

Tyler Leonhard, Skyler Myers and Andrew Trewyn earned victories for the JCHS boys. Leonhard on the 400 dash in 57.9 seconds, Myers was first in the 3,200 run in 11:27, and Trewyn placed first in 110 hurdles in 16.4 seconds and high jump with a height of 6 feet.



Tribe boys, girls third

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery boys and girls track teams both finished third in a four-team meet it hosted Tuesday.

New Bremen won the girls meet with 119 points. St. Henry was second with 77 points, Fort Recovery placed third with 44 and New Knoxville was fourth with 11.

St. Henry won the boys meet, scoring 124 points. New Bremen tallied 63 points for second, Fort Recovery totaled 48 points for third and New Knoxville had six points.

Chloe Will had two wins for the FRHS girls, finishing first in the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 37.33 seconds) and 3,200 run (12:38.24).

Travis Sutter was a dual winner for the FRHS boys, taking the top spot in the 1,600 run (4:44.55) and 3,200 run (10:53.65). Robby LeFevre also won, taking the top spot in the 100 dash in 11.85 seconds. The Tribe’s 4x100 relay of Riley Pearson, Jacob Acheson, Jared Timmerman and LeFevre won in 47.28 seconds.



McIntire sets record

WOODLAN — Bailey McIntire did what hadn’t been done in more than four decades.

McIntire, a South Adams senior, set a new school record as the Starfire boys track team lost to the Woodlan Warriors, 73-50.

The SAHS girls won, 81-42.

McIntire won the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 59.1 seconds, beating Dallas Liechty’s record of 1:59.3 set in 1972. McIntire also won the 1,600 run in 5:04.

Lars In’t Groen won high jump (5 feet, 8 inches), discus (124 feet, 8 inches) and shot put (44 feet, 5.5 inches). Trey Lehman won the 3,200 run in 12:05, and the SAHS 4x800 team also won.

For the SAHS girls, Addie Wanner and Kallee Patch each had two victories. Wanner won the 100 hurdles in 14.8 seconds and high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. Patch won the 1,600 run (5:40) and 3,200 run (12:22). Caroline Kloepper (400 – 1:03), Olivia Von Gunten (800 run – 2:50), Emma Rosswurm (long jump – 13 feet, 0.5 inches) and Calyssa Lehman (discus – 94 feet, 5 inches) also picked up victories.
