Two local women represented the Beta Theta Chapter from Portland at the 62nd State Convention of Tri Kappa held in Indianpolis.
Linda Frantz and Tami Tillman attended the event.
The local philanthropic chapter has 30 members and earns money from nut sales, selling caramel apple slices at the Jay County Fair, working for the fair board and from a bingo event.
They donate to many local organizations in the community, including Special Olympics and the Youth Service Bureau.
Earns honors
Katy Smeltzer, Portland, was recognized for high honors during the 58th Annual Honors Day program at University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
To qualify, Smeltzer had to maintain a cumulative 3.85 GPA and be enrolled full-time during the fall semester.
