There are several events coming up at Jay County Public Library in May.
•KiPS, a program to help boost childrens’ kindergarten readiness, will be held each Tuesday from June 6 to Aug. 1. Applications are available at the library. For more information, call Linda Shreve at (260) 726-7890.
•The Summer Challenge is coming and the goal will be to read 2,017 pages per person this summer. More details are to come.
•The Summer Time Fun Bunch begins June 9 and and continues through July 28 for preschool through third grade kids. More details are to come.
•The Hunting History Photo Scavenger Hunt will wrap up on May 12 and the drawing for the 23andMe DNA kit will be May 13.
•Clubs meeting in May will be the Coupon Club at 6 p.m. on May 2; Cookbook Club at 6:15 p.m. on May 8; JayCPL Book Club at 7 p.m. on May 15 to discuss the book “The Gilded Hour” by Sara Donati; Hook & Needles Club from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on May 23.
•Preschool playtime will be at 10 a.m. on May 1, 8, 15 and 22.
•LEGO Brick Free Build will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on May 2, 9, 16 and 23 and LEGO All Day will be May 30.
•Senior Tech at John Jay Center for Learning will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 18.
Books were recently donated to JCPL by Barry Hudson.

Schwartz; “The Life and Death of the Great Lakes” by Dan Egan; “Thieves of State: Why Corruption Threatens Global Security” by Sarah Chayes; “The First 1,000 Days: A Crucial Time for Mothers and Children” by Roger Thurow; “Mother and Child Project: Raising Our Voices for Health and Hope” by Kay Warren and Melinda Gates; “Substitute: Going to School with a Thousand Kids” by Nicholson Baker and “Helping Children Succeed: What Works and Why” by Paul Tough.
The library is located at 315 N. Ship St. in Portland. It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Saturday.
