Museum to hold open house
A new display will be featured at the Jay County Historical Society Museum.
“End of an Era,” a display of items from Marsh Supermarket, can be viewed at an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 903 E. Main St. in Portland.
Another display will feature the Redkey community with photographs, articles and items from the former Redkey High School.
A collection of items from the former Indiana Glass Company, loaned by the John Esparza family, will also be featured. Esparza worked at Indiana Glass for more than 30 years.
Also featured are wedding dresses and bank memorabilia, from the collection of Cheryl Myers, from past and present Jay County banks.
Items that have recently been donated to the museum include a Civil War medallion, given by Glen and Chris Bickel of Fort Wayne, and a cast iron stove from Robert G. Holley of Muncie.
Stamp program
A program on the history of the postal service in Jay County and stamp collecting will be held at 5 p.m. today at Jay County Public Library.
Jeff Crown will be the featured speaker and will also showcase his collection of Portland stamps and letters.
Painting class
Blackford County Arts Center in Hartford City will host a Coffee and Canvas Class on Sept. 24.
This class is being held to replace the Wine and Acrylics class that was to be held Saturday.
The event will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and the cost is $25 per person.
Teaching artist Susie Burns will guide participants as they use acrylics tocomplete a painting of water lilies.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Bead making
Anyone who enjoys making crafts or jewelry, won’t want to miss bead making classes at Minnetrista in Muncie.
The open flame, glass bead making workshops will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 19, and 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 24.
Registration deadline is Aug. 16 for the first class and Aug. 21 for the second. The cost is $55.
Beads will be available for pick-up the next week in The Orchard Shop at Minnetrista.

Depot concerts
The last outdoor concert in the series will be held Saturday at Webster Depot Park in Dunkirk
