Club to host quilt show
Taking Note
Stitch ’N Chatter Quilt Club will host its annual quilt show during the Tri-State Engine and Tractor Association show.
The event will be held at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland, and will feature quilt displays, vendors, demonstrations and a raffle.
Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 25, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 26. There is an entry fee.
Anyone wanting to showquilts, may bring them to Arts Place between noon and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
ArtWorks
ArtWorks classes will begin on Aug. 28 at Arts Place, Portland Center, 131 E. Walnut St., Blackford County Arts Center, 107 W. Washington St. in Hartford City.
Semester long classes for adults offered at the Portland Center will include oil painting with Steve McClung, wheel throwing with Mary Boetgger and belly dancing and veil making with Lori Naseelah.
Workshops for adults will include needle felting with Carol Tropf, printmaking on clay or teapots, both with Kimberly Anderson, and batik with Melinda Penrod.
Classes for children at the Portland Center will include a six-week toddler art class taught by Sheron McClung and workshops Making the Sunshine Last with Melinda Penrod, Under the Sea with Kimberly Anderson,Skulls and Skeletons Printmaking with Melinda Penrod and Raku Clay for Kids with Mikaela Shipley.
Classes for adults offered at the Blackford County Arts Center will include Silk Scarf Dying or Needle Felting, both with Carol Tropf, Intro to Clay or Printmaking, both with Leslie Newton, Oil Painting with Susie Burns and Photography with Don Rogers.
Classes for students will include Kids Intro to Clay with Leslie Newton and Toddler Art Class with Sheron McClung.
Blackford County Arts Center will also offer classes for students in kindergarten through sixth grade on the second Saturday of each month. A freemake and take activity will be made.
Classes for adults offered at Arts Place Auglaize/Mercer Center are Watercolor Bliss with Pat Rayman and Acrylics with Debby Greggory. For students, thereis a six-week Creatives for Kids class.

The Portland Center, 131 E. Walnut St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Blackford County Arts Center, 107 W. Washington St., will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday as well as 10 a.m to 2 p.m. each Tuesday.
Shuffleboard tournament
The Arthur & Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion at Swiss Village in Berne will host a shuffleboard tournament.
The tournament, for seniors 55 and older, will begin at 9 a.m. Friday.
