MONROEVILLE — It has been three years since the Patriots last lost to a conference opponent.

Lucy Laux and Kendra Muhlenkamp helped continue their dominance.

Laux scored three goals and had just as many assists, and Muhlenkamp notched her first career hat trick as the Jay County High School girls soccer team beat the host Heritage Patriots 9-1 on Thursday in the Allen County Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Jay County (2-0, 1-0 ACAC) got on the board five minutes into the game as Muhlenkamp scored her first goal of the night. Laux then scored back-to-back goals for JCHS, first on an assist from Breea Liette and the other from Hannah Phillips.

Alex Bader also scored in the first half as the visiting Patriots went up 4-1 before halftime.

After the break, it was more offense for Jay County as Muhlenkamp notched two more goals, Laux had one and Phillips scored twice, the first multi-goal game of her career.

Goalkeeper Shelby Caldwell made four stops in net.

Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 5-0. Grace Saxman, Payton McCoy, Mikele Suman, Karlie Bullard and Muhlenkamp each had goals.



Knights top tennis

Jay County’s boys tennis team lost its second straight match on Thursday, 5-0 to the visiting Norwell Knights.

At No. 1 singles, Garrett Rodgers lost to Ian Gerber 6-2, 6-2, and Payton Heniser dropped his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-0 to Tyler Skiles.

Conner Benter, Jay County’s No. 3 singles player, fell 6-3, 6-1.

The JCHS No. 1 doubles team of Xavier Ninde and Ethan Myers lost to Dylan Felger and Jack Gerber 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Sheldon Upp and Gavin Randall lost to Ian Clark and Jacob Collins, 6-1, 6-1.



Spikers fall to Delta

The Jay County volleyball team dropped its home opener on Thursday, 25-21, 25-20, 25-12, to the sectional rival Delta Eagles.

Kaelyn Weaver’s seven kills were a team-high for the Patriots (0-2). She also had three digs and two blocks.

Natalie Miles tallied five kills and four digs, as Sarah Walter had four kills and one block. Alana Kunkler’s four blocks were best on the squad, Kailee Denney led the team with four aces, and Maggie Pryor notched a team-high six digs.

Jay County hopes to finally get in the win column at 9 a.m. Saturday as it hosts the Patriot Invitational.



SA volleyball wins

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season Thursday with a 25-8, 25-15, 25-20 sweep of the Canterbury Cavaliers.

Madi Wurster’s 11 kills and three blocks were tops on the team. Addie Wanner chipped in six kills, while Shaelynn Bowman and Jade Farlow both had five kills and a pair of blocks.

Julia Grabau racked up 27 assists and five digs, Shania Neal led the team defensively with eight digs, while Lydia Loshe tallied seven digs to go with her two kills. Hannah Dull and Ayla Rossworm had three digs apiece.



MC sweeps Stars

MUNCIE — South Adams’ boys tennis team fell to the Muncie Central Bearcats on Thursday, 5-0.

At No. 1 singles, senior David Muselman lost to Erich Ong 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 2 singles Cam Stevens fell to Brock McCoy 6-0, 6-0.

The Starfires’ No. 1 doubles team of Wes Stout and James Fosnaugh lost to Charlie Hammock and Brody McCoy 6-0, 6-0. Paul Stucky and Travis Clingenpeel fell to Zach Abrell and Tyler Walker at No. 2 singles, 6-0. 6-0.

South Adams did not have a No. 3 singles player.



Braves beat Stars

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams girls soccer team lost its season opener on Thursday, 6-1 to the host Blackhawk Christian Braves.

Lexi Dellinger scored the lone goal for the Starfires (0-1) on an assist from Kirstien Herman.

Goalkeepers Jenna Myers and Kelsa Ortiz had nine and four saves respectively.
