MUNCIE — Kendra Muhlenkamp and Lucy Laux did it again.

Muhlenkamp and Laux scored three goals apiece Saturday as the Jay County High School girls soccer team blasted the host Burris Owls, 10-1.

It was the second time in as many games the forwards notched hat tricks, and just the second Muhlenkamp’s career.

Jay County (3-0), which hosts the Woodlan Warriors at 6 p.m. tonight, led 6-0 at halftime. The Patriots outscored the Owls 4-1 in the final 40 minutes of play.

Alex Bader scored twice for her first two goals of the season. Breea Liette and Anhely Montes also tallied a goal for the second time in three games.

Laux and Muhlenkamp lead the Patriots in scoring with eight and seven goals respectively. Muhlenkamp is two goals off her career-high of nine she set as a sophomore.

Shelby Caldwell and Gwen Omstead shared goalkeeping duties, and both had two saves.



SA 2-2 at invite

DENVER — South Adams’ volleyball team went 2-2 Saturday at the North Miami Invitational.

The Starfires (4-2) defeated Caston (25-13, 25-21) and Northfield (25-18, 25-14) before losing to both Rochester (27-25, 25-17) and Northwestern (16-25, 25-21, 15-10).

Senior Madi Wurster racked up 39 kills, including a 13-kill effort against Northwestern. Addie Wanner was second on the team with 30 kills, and she also had a baker’s dozen against Northwestern. Jade Farlow’s 15 kills were third, and Shaelynn Bowman notched 10 kills.

Shania Neal and Hannah Dull led the Starfire defense with 25 and 23 digs respectively. Farlow also had three blocks. Lydia Loshe’s four aces were tops on the team, and Julia Grabau totaled 86 assists, including a whopping 28 against Northwestern.



Stars win twice

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys tennis team picked up its first two wins of the season Saturday against the North Side Legends and South Side Archers.

First, the Starfires (2-2) defeated a depleted South Side team 5-0. David Muselman knocked off Connor Meeks 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No. 2 singles Cam Stevens defeated Tarwaun Smith 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 10-4. The Archers did not have players at No. 3 singles, or at either doubles position.

Against the Legends, the Starfires won 4-1. Muselman defeated Canleron Woehnker 6-1, 6-0, while Stevens outlasted Benito Rodriguez 6-1, 4-6, 13-11. At No. 3 singles, James Fosnaugh knocked off Danyelle Smith 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Wes Stout and Paul Stuckey lost to Jesus Shaffer and Chris Walker 6-0, 6-0. Brayden Gilbert and Travis Clingenpeel won by forfeit at No. 2 doubles.



Jay tennis seventh

WATERLOO — Jay County’s boys tennis team finished seventh on Saturday in the DeKalb Invitational.

Angola swept the tournament, winning at all five brackets to score 45 points for the team title. East Noble totaled 18 points for second, and host DeKalb was third with 17 points. Jay County scored two points.

The Patriots’ doubles teams were both sixth out of eight teams. Xavier Ninde and Ethan Myers, the JCHS No. 1 doubles team, lost their first match to Dalton Smith and Andrew Novak of DeKalb, 6-0, 6-1.

They then defeated Andrew Shaw and Dillan Sumowski of West Noble 8-6, before falling to Jared Hoffman and Brant Mast of NorthWood 8-1.

At No. 2 doubles,?Gavin Randall and Sheldon Upp lost to East Noble’s K.J. Cramer and Dylan Buddell before defeating Caleb Thompson and Andrew Torn of West Noble 8-5.

In the fifth-place match, the JCHS?tandem fell to Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz of NorthWood 8-0.

Garrett Rodgers was 0-2 at No. 1 singles and Payton Heniser was also 0-2 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Ben Muhlenkamp lost both of his matches as well.



SA girls win

HARTFORD CITY — South Adams’ girls soccer team defeated the Blackford Bruins on Saturday, 5-2.

Lexi Dellinger and Kayla LeFever both had a pair of goals, while Emilee Myers scored the other goal for the Starfires (1-1).

Madi Smith had one assist, and Dellinger notched two assists to finish the day with six points.

Jenna Myers had eight saves as the SAHS goalkeeper.
