WEST ALEXANDRIA, Ohio — The Indians opened with a dominating win.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team began its season with a victory on Monday, sweeping the Twin Valley SouthPanthers 25-8, 25-6, 25-8.
Senior Carley Stone paced the offense for Fort Recovery (1-0) as she racked up 13 kills. She also had five aces and four digs.
Paige Jutte and Cassy Martin were second on the team with six kills, and Brooke Gaerke chipped in five kills to go with her pair of blocks.
Hannah Knapke posted a team-high eight digs, while Madi Rammel’s 10 assists were best on the squad.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-16, 25-13.
Paige Fortkamp led the Tribe with 10 kills. Rachel Acheson and Val Muhlenkamp each collected four kills, and Brooke Kahlig had 10 digs. Chloe Showalter’s 11 assists led the team.
FR loses tiebreaker
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost to the New Bremen Cardinals on Monday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Both Fort Recovery and New Bremen shot 203, but the Cardinals edged the Indians on a fifth-man tiebreaker.
Harrison Kaup led the Indians with a 44, and Grant Knapke was three strokes behind him. Carson Rammel shot 55 for the Tribe’s third-best score, and Derek Lochtefeld completed the FRHS team total with 57.
Blayne Tobe, the Tribe’s fifth golfer, shot 65. New Bremen’s fifth score was 60.
Cole Hemmelgarn of New Bremen was match medalist with a score of 46.
SA swept
DECATUR — The South Adams boys tennis team suffered a sweep at the host Bellmont Braves on Monday, 5-0.
Cam Stevens had the closest match of the day for the Starfires (2-3). The sophomore lost his No. 2 singles match to Nick Teeple 6-3, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, SAHS senior David Muselman lost to Robby Ysidron 6-1, 6-3, and James Fosnaugh dropped his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0, to Parker Braun.
The No. 1 doubles team of Wes Stout and Paul Stuckey fell to Michael Wetter and Oliver Gerhes 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Brayden Gilbert and Travis Clingenpeel lost to Josiah Matheau and Jarrett Bailey 6-2, 6-2.
Star freshmen win
BERNE — The South Adams freshman volleyball team opened its season Monday with a 22-25, 25-24, 15-14 victory over the Norwell Knights.
Josie Grabau and Jade Baker both had five kills in leading the Starfires (1-0). Gabriella Bailey was second on the team with three kills.
Aaliyah Feaster’s 10 digs paced the Stars defensively. Sidney Schwartz racked up 14 assists to go with her team-high four aces.
