WINCHESTER — The Patriots are back at .500.

Jay County High School’s volleyball team evened its season record at 3-3 Tuesday with a clean sweep of the Winchester Golden Falcons.

The Patriots took the first set 25-12 before winning the final two by identical 25-18, 25-18 scores.

Senior Kaelyn Weaver had 13 kills to lead Jay County, which also got eight kills from sophomore Olivia Kunkler and two each from Sarah Walter, Natalie Miles and Hallie Fields.


Kailee Denney had a team-high four aces and Kunkler chipped in three while finishing in a three-way tie for the most blocks on the squad with two. Denney and Weaver also had a pair of stops at the net.

Chloe Trissel and Miles had 10 and eight digs respectively, with Denney totaling 20 assists.

Jay County’s junior varsity team also swept Winchester, 25-14, 25-17.

Hallie Fields posted seven kills and eight digs to lead the Patriots, and Sara Hemmelgarn was second on the team with five kills. Lyric Garringer also had seven digs, and Josie Atkins notched two aces.
