Last week vs. Blackford: Junior fullback Michael Schlechty had three total touchdowns and senior quarterback Holton Hill had a trio of TD passes as Jay County blasted the Blackford Bruins, 43-7. Hill completed his first 11 passes and finished with 204 yards, including a pair of touchdown tosses to Caden Stant.

Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 12-of-13 for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Rushing — Michael Schlechty – nine carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Caleb Webster – five catches for 84 yards, Caden Stant four catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Defense — Ethan Theurer – 17 tackles, two tackles for loss.

Delta Eagles

Coach: Chris Overholt, second year

Conference: Hoosier Heritage

Last week vs. Centerville: Sophomore running back Charlie Spegal ran wild, amassing 312 yards on 27 carries with three touchdowns in a 39-7 win over the Centerville Bulldogs. The Eagles totaled 438 rushing yards on 48 carries, an average of 9.1 yards per rush.

Season leaders: Passing — Zach Garner – 6-of-12 for 58 yards. Rushing — Charlie Spegal – 27 carries for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Receiving — Wesley Stitt – two catches for 21 yards. Defense — Brady Pease – 14 tackles.



Last season: Jay County scored on its opening drive but didn’t find the end zone again in a 33-6 loss in Portland. Delta quarterback Tanner Lambert threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as he totaled 208 yards from scrimmage. Jay County only gained 174 yards from scrimmage compared 378 for the Eagles.



Game notes: This is the 45th meeting all time between Jay County and Delta, with the Eagles owning a 33-11 advantage in the series. Jay County’s last victory over the Eagles came by way of forfeit in 2011, but the last on-field win was 1992 ... This is the first time since 1996 that Jay County and Delta have not played the first week of the season. Prior to ’97, the Patriots and Eagles met annually in week four ... Second-year Delta coach Chris Overholt is a former JCHS assistant, and he led the Eagles to the sectional championship during his first season ... Jay County was one of five Allen County Athletic Conference members to win its first game of the season. Bluffton and Heritage both lost their respective openers.
