DECATUR — The South Adams volleyball team battled to tie the match but dropped the final two sets in a 27-25, 24-26, 25-19, 26-24 loss to the host Bellmont Squaws on Thursday.

Madi Wurster paced the offense for the Starfires (5-3) with 18 kills. She also had eight digs and a pair of blocks. Addie Wanner was second on the squad with 10 kills in addition to her team-best five blocks. Jade Farlow and Julia Grabau contributed three and two kills respectively.

Grabau totaled 31 assists as well.

South Adam’s junior varsity team also lost, 24-25, 25-11, 15-5. Gabriella Bailey led the way with six kills, Esther Troyer had five digs and Josie Grabau racked up 15 assists.

Bellmont’s freshman team defeated the Starfires 25-20, 24-25, 15-8 to complete the sweep. Jade Baker, Josie Grabau and Gabriella Bailey had three kills each for South Adams.



Stars beat ’Dogs

NEW HAVEN — South Adams’ boys tennis team swept the New Haven Bulldogs on Thursday, 5-0.

At No. 1 singles, David Muselman didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Justin Cummings. Cam Stevens, the Starfires’ No. 2 singles player, outlasted August Defederico 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

The Starfires’ No. 1 doubles team of Brayden Gilbert and James Fosnaugh defeated Christopher Moore and Chase Geiger 6-2, 6-2.

South Adams received forfeits at No. 3 singles (Wes Stout) and No. 2 doubles (Paul Stuckey and Travis Clingenpeel).



Dellinger leads Stars

BERNE — Lexi Dellinger scored four times in leading the South Adams girls soccer team to an 8-0 victory over the Wapahani Raiders on Thursday.

Emilee Myers, Kayla LeFever, Madi Smith and Kelsa Ortiz all scored for the Starfires (2-2).

Smith added two assists while Haley Gerber, Morgan Grote, Dellinger and LeFever all had helpers as well.

Jenna Myers turned away all 14 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the year.



SA still winless

BUTLER — The South Adams boys soccer team lost its fourth straight match Thursday with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Eastside Blazers.

The Blazers scored 19 minutes in, and added two more goals in the first half to stake its big advantage. In the opening 40 minutes, South Adams (0-4) only had two shots but none of which were on frame.

During the second half, Deven Minnich had the lone shot on goal for the Starfires.
