The Patriots have their second win of the season.
Jay County High School’s girls golf team finished second in a three-team match on Tuesday with the Winchester Golden Falcons and Fort Recovery Indians at Portland Golf Club.
Winchester shot 201 to finish first. Jay County (2-9) was second with 240, and Fort Recovery totaled 244 for third.
Mackenzie Parks led Jay County with 51. Eden Basford was second on the team with 60, and Raquel Wehrly posted the No. 3 score with a 64. Abby Huey completed the team score with 65.
Kristen Keller was the top Fort Recovery golfer as she shot 52. Alli Vaughn’s 60 was second on the squad, and Sophie Timmerman shot 65 for third. Eryn Litmer totaled 67 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
Also competing but not factoring into the team total were Fort Recovery’s Becca Wood (69) and Jay County’s Madalyn Garringer (70).
Playing as individuals for Jay County were Sierra Caster (52), Erika Heitkamp (61) and Gabi Paxson (68).
Star girls win
DECATUR — The South Adams girls cross country team won the Bi-County Conditioner relay Tuesday at Bellmont.
The Starfires had a combined time of 2 hours, 26.7 seconds, finishing ahead of Norwell by more than two minutes in the two-person, 6-mile relay. Bellmont had a time of 2:13.01.8 for third.
Bellmont won the boys title in 1:40:45, South Adams was second in 1:46:08.5, and Adams Central finished third in 1:51:36.4.
The SAHS combination of Olivia Von Gunten and Kallee Patch was first with their time of 38:48.7. Eliza Harruff and Megan Miller (40:04.1) finished fourth, Isabel Von Gunten and Calyssa Lehman (41:33) placed seventh and Hadi Hawbaker and Acacia Anderson (43.57.6) were 12th.
Wyatt Miller and Victor Vasquez were the top SAHS boys runners in 33:27.8 for second. Trey Lehman and Luke Gerber (35:51.7) were ninth, Kam Yoder and Clancy McIntire (36:48.9) finished 14th and Dario Banuelos and Aidan Von Gunten (40:44) were 20th.
SA pounces Parkway
BERNE — South Adams’ volleyball team was challenged in the second set but pounced on the Parkway Panthers for a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday.
South Adams (7-3) won 25-7, 28-26, 25-17.
Madi Wurster tallied 16 kills and four blocks to lead the Starfires. Addie Wanner added nine kills, and Jade Farlow had five kills. Shaelynn Bowman recorded five kills and three blocks, while Wanner and Farlow each had a pair of blocks.
Shania Neal had 14 digs, and Julia Grabau contributed 33 assists.
The South Adams junior varsity team also won, 25-9, 25-19. Gabriella Bailey led the team with six kills, and Savannah Alberson was second on the team with three kills. Jade Baker’s eight digs was a team-best, and Josie Grabau recorded 15 assists and three aces.
Stars stumble
HARTFORD CITY — The Starfires and Bruins were even in matches played, but the latter got the win thanks to a forfeit.
South Adams’ boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 match Tuesday to the host Blackford Bruins.
David Muselman and Cam Stevens won their respective singles matches for the Starfires (4-5). Muselman defeated Adrian Reidy at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0, while Stevens knocked off Dylan Funchouser.
At No. 1 doubles, the Starfire duo of Wes Stout and James Fosnaugh lost to Austin Collett and Stratton Stone 6-2, 6-1. Paul Stuckey and Travis Clingenpeel fell to Kyle Price and Jarrett Barker 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
South Adams had to forfeit at No. 3 singles, giving the Bruins the match victory.
