Children’s activities continue at library
Programs for children will be held in December at Jay County Public Library.
Mother Goose & Me at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, 8 and 15; Story & Fun Time at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 11 and 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Lego Challenge will be 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 and all-day on Thursday, Dec. 21 and 28.
Clubs meeting in December will include Cookbook Club at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11. It will be a cookie swap and bring a dozen cookies to exchange.
Books donated to the library in memory of Mati Lopez from the Gasca Family were “Fa-La-La/Tra-La-La” by Leslie Patricelli, “Little Skeletons/Esqueletitos” by Susi Jaramillo, “El Animo Perfecto” by Raquel Diaz Reguera, “Garden Renovation” by Bobbie Schwartz and “The Wellness Garden” by Shawna Coronado.
Alan and Rebecca Peterson donated the audiobooks “Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood, “Future Home of the Living God” by Louise Erdrich and “Year One” by Nora Roberts.
Santa Claus will visit the library from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Candlelight tours
Christmas at the Museum continues Saturday a the Jay County Historical Museum in Portland during Winterfest activities.
Candlelight Tours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Thein Snipps from Fort Recovery and Eric Rogers and piano students from Arts Place will play music on the 1890s piano.
There will also be refreshments.
Fundraising event
Those wanting to help tornado victims in Jay County have one more chance.
The deadline to register for the Canvas & Cookies event is Saturday.
The fundraiser is sponsored by Jay County 4-H Junior Leaders and will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the 4-H Exhibit Hall at Jay County Fairgrounds.
Painters must be seven years and older and childcare will be available for children younger than five. The cost is $25.

Elected
Alyson Lucas was recently elected into membership of Phi Beta Kappa academic society at Indiana University. She was selected by faculty members on the basis of impressive academic and service achievements and will be inducted on Dec. 5. She is a 2014 Jay County High School graduate and was awarded the Lilly Scholarship and is the daughter of Stephanie Tague.
Fort ties for third
The MAC Scholastic JV Tournament was held Nov. 13 at New Knoxville High School.
Versailles won first place and Fort Recovery and Coldwater High School tied for second place.
Fort Recovery team members were Caitlin Weigel, Spencer Kaup, Anna Wendel, Luke Keller, Andy Weitzel, Aden Grube and Dylan Langenkamp. The coach is Reid Knuth.
Fort Recovery High School and Minster High School tied for third place in the Mercer Savings Bank MAC Scholastic Bowl held on Nov. 20, winning $62.50. The team was coached by Reid Knuth.
