ANDERSON — For the second straight meet, the Patriots swim teams split.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team defeated the Anderson Indians on Thursday, 127-53, and the boys fell 116-69.
Alex Bader, Eliza Bader and Ashlyn Dow each had a pair of individual victories for the JCHS girls (2-0). Alex Bader was first in the both the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, Eliza Bader won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly while Dow won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Mackenzie Knisely finished first in diving as the Patriots won seven individual events.
Elizabeth McDowell joined Vivienne Kukler, Eliza Bader and Dow to win the 200 medley relay, then teamed with Dow and the Baders for a victory in the 200 freestyle.
Erica Hathaway, Rieley Brewster, Alex Bader and Kunkler combined to win 400 freestyle relay.
Garrett Campbell picked up the only win for the JCHS boys as he won the 100 freestyle.
Thien sets record
CONVOY — Grace Thien set a school record for 3-pointers Thursday, lifting the Fort Recovery girls basketball team to a 56-44 victory over the Crestview Knights in the season opener.
Fort Recovery (1-0) trailed 20-18 after the first quarter but took a 33-30 lead into the halftime.
The Indians held a 14-3 edge in the third period to lead 47-33 heading into the fourth.
Thien made seven of her eight 3-point attempts, breaking the record of six set by Tammy Thobe in 1996. Thien, who also set the single-season 3-point record last year with 53, finished with 23 points.
Carley Stone had 11 points while posting team highs in both rebounds (seven) and assists (four). Val Muhlenkamp and Kiah Wendel had eight and seven points respectively.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won, 29-19. Hope Wendel led the Indians with 12 points, and Lydia Wenning chipped in six points.
SA boys top ’Dogs
BERNE — The South Adams boys swim team opened its season on Thursday with a 123-42 victory over the Celina Bulldogs.
The SAHS girls fell, 123-54.
Brayden Collingsworth and Zach Colpaert were both double winners for the Starfires. Collingsworth had victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, while Colpaert was first in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Trey Lehman (200 individual medley), Tyler Yoder (diving) and Curtis Sprunger (100 breaststroke) each had individual wins.
Kam Yoder, Lehman, Sprunger and Colpaert combined for victories in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Parker Collingsworth and his brother Brayden, Gavin Bullock and Aidan Von Gunten teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Ashley LeFever accounted for the only wins for the Starfire girls. She was first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
Stars open with win
MONROEVILLE — The South Adams wrestling team opened its season Thursday with a commanding 61-12 victory over the host Heritage Patriots.
Three Starfires notched pins in the first period. Austin Gorney, a 182-pounder, pinned Brad Fuhrman in 41 seconds, Collin Shaffer (195) took 36 seconds to beat Jacob Burkmire and Tayler Cuellar (285) pinned Clay Riddle in 56 seconds.
Christian Summersett got his first career victory by pinning Amber Hoy in 3:05.
At 120 pounds, Wyatt Miller defeated Mason Smith by major decision, 14-4, and Michael Rupp won at 126 pounds with a 10-6 decision over Austin Hoy.
Austin McKibben (138), Drake Deitsch (145), Alex Sator (160), Tommy Herman (170) and Keegon Rich (106) won by forfeit.
