GREENVILLE, Ohio — Michael Bashore won a bunch of games as coach of the Green Wave.

Payton Jutte made sure his first trip back as a visiting coach resulted as a win too.

Jutte scored a career-high 37 points Saturday, leading the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team to a 79-72 win over the Greenville Green Wave.

Bashore spent four years leading the Green Wave.

Jutte struggled the night before in his first game of the season as he was just 3-of-12 for 10 points. Against the Green Wave, he was 10-for-20, including making five of his nine 3-point attempts, and finished 12-of-16 from the foul line.

The junior joins Bill Fiely, Tom Bryan and Dave Williams in scoring exactly 37 points in a single game. Only 10 players have scored more than 37 points in FRHS history. Bryan holds the school record with 55 points set in 1966.

Grant Knapke was second on the team for the Indians (2-0) with 18 points, including making all eight of his free-throw attempts. Cade Wendel scored seven points to go with his team-best five assists.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost, 47-37. Ryne Post led the team with nine points, while Owen Schoen and Brian Bihn had eight points apiece.



Jay loses to Archers

The Jay County girls basketball team lost its third straight game Saturday with an 86-60 loss to the South Side Archers.

Jay County (3-5) trailed 26-8 after the first quarter and was behind 49-29 at halftime. The Archers (6-0) outscored the Patriots 24-18 in the third quarter for a 73-47 advantage heading into the fourth period.

Kendra Muhlenkamp led the Patriots — they host Muncie Central on Thursday and travel to Adams Central on Friday — with 14 points, and Shelby Caldwell chipped in a dozen points. Gwen Omstead, who missed Thursday’s game against New Castle, had a team-best six rebounds.

The Jay County junior varsity team beat the Archers, 47-11.

Grace Saxman led the Patriot (6-2) with nine points. Kendal Garringer and Macey Weitzel contributed eight points apiece.



Fort girls fall

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team held the Redskins without a point during the third quarter but couldn’t keep it up in the fourth during a 34-32 loss to the Wapakoneta Redskins.

The Indians (1-1) and Redskins were tied at 22 heading into halftime, and Fort Recovery held a 6-0 edge after three quarters of play. Wapakoneta doubled-up the Indians, 12-6, in the final eight minutes for the win.

Carley Stone led all players with a dozen points before fouling out. Grace Thien was second on the team with seven points, and Val Muhlenkamp chipped in five points.

Brooke Kahlig grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won, 44-25. Alli Vaughn had 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Brenna Homan and Hope Wendel contributed 10 points and seven rebounds apiece.



Stars beat Patriots

MONROEVILLE — The South Adams girls basketball team won its second conference game Saturday with a 43-38 win over the host Heritage Patriots.

Heading into the fourth quarter, South Adams (6-2, 2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) and Heritage were tied at 25. The Stars had an 18-13 advantage in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Madi Wurster led all players with 16 points, doing all of her damage in front of the 3-point line. Lexi Dellinger, Sydney Pierce and Lydia Loshe all chipped in seven points, while Shaelynn Bowman contributed six points.

South Adams’ junior varsity team lost, 22-20 Loshe led SAHS with seven points, and Kelsa Ortiz had four points.



SA wins two

BERNE — South Adams’ wrestling team went 2-3 in the Spencer Haworth Invitational it hosted on Saturday.

The Starfires defeated Madison-Grant 43-30 and Eastbrook 57-24, with losses to Union City (39-36), Lafayette Harrison (40-25) and Snider (42-22).

Christian Summersett, Zach Loshe, Austin Gorney and Tayler Cuellar were all 4-1 on the day. Michael Rupp and Collin Shaffer each went 3-1, and Wyatt Miller won his only two matches of the day. Brandon Wynn was also 1-0.

Drake Deitsch finished 2-3 and Austin McKibben was 1-4. Kaidon Fluekinger was 0-4, while Alex Sator and Tommy Herman lost all five of their matches.
