The Chiefs aren’t perfect on the season, but when it comes to conference opponents they have yet to lose.
East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams remained undefeated in Allen County Athletic Conference play Thursday with home victories against the Bluffton Tigers.
The eighth graders held off the Tigers for a 29-25 victory, as the seventh graders had a lopsided 39-9 win.
Madison Dirksen scored 17 points to pace the EJMS eighth graders, who moved to 3-3 (3-0 ACAC). Heaven Hambrock scored 10 points to join Dirksen in double figures, while Jayden Claytor contributed the other two points.
Renna Schweiterman’s 19 points were a team high for the seventh grade Chiefs (5-1, 3-0 ACAC). Olivia Waters was second with eight points, Lydia Keihn chipped in six points, Laci McGinnis tallied six points and Eden Abshire finished with two points.
EJ boys split
BLUFFTON — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split with the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.
The seventh graders picked up a 40-36 victory while the eighth graders lost, 37-33.
Bennett Weitzel led the EJMS seventh graders (4-2, 3-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) with a dozen points, and Blake Bogenschutz was second with nine points. Carter Link contributed eight points, Brady Davis chipped in five points as Josh Dowlen, Dawson Hundley and Mathias Perrod had two points apiece.
Ethan Dirksen led the way for the Chief eighth graders (5-1, 2-1 ACAC) with 16 points. Gavin Muhlenkamp tallied 11 points, Adam Muhlenkamp had four points and Tarron Bentz finished with two points.
WJ girls beat Indians
UNION CITY — A balanced scoring effort helped the West Jay seventh grade girls basketball team to a 28-14 victory on Thursday against the Union City Indians.
Abbie Fields and Paige Mumbower both scored eight points to lead the Eagles.
Gabi Bailey was third on the team with six points, Grace Shimp had four points and Alizabeth Stotler added two points to the winning effort.
