ROCKFORD, Ohio — Against teams in its own state, the Starfires are undefeated.
They ran into a roadblock once they crossed into Ohio.
The South Adams Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team had its shot at a perfect record come to a halt on Saturday with a 44-27 loss to the Parkway Panthers.
South Adams’seventh grade team also lost, 40-14.
Trey Schoch led the eighth graders (7-1) with 15 points and five rebounds. Jordan Hinshaw and Kaleb Stevens both added four points, as Leo Palomo contributed three points. Colin Subler finished with two points.
MattStenier’s five points led the seventh grade squad (5-3). Brady Beall scored three points as Kyle Minger and Nathan Muselman chipped in two points each.
Jay Co. places first
MUNCIE — Eight wrestlers went undefeated Sunday, helping the Jay County elementary wrestling team win the Delta Elementary Duals.
Jay County defeated Noblesville (79-9), Cowan (78-3) and Northeastern (48-42) during pool play, then dominated Columbia City 72-24 in the final.
Jensen Boyd, Tony Wood, Bradin Daniels, Cody Rowles, Cameron Clark, AJ Myers, Mallory Winner and Bryce Wenk all finished 4-0 for the tournament. Memphis Torre, Tripp Haisley, Landon Blowers and Tristan Stout were each 3-1.
Finishing 2-2 were Carson Pfeifer, Payson Rickard, John Henry Osborne, Sylas Wenk and Conner Specht.
All Jay County wrestlers were .500 or better, and the squad moves to 15-2 on the year.
Teams get bids
FORT WAYNE — Two JC Xtreme competition cheerleading squads earned bids to the national finals based on their performance Sunday at Cheer Max Christmas Cheer Competition at Grand Fort Wayne.
The Junior Level 2 squad finished first, were grand champions and had a zero-deduction routine. It earned the group a full-paid bid to The Florida Finals National Championships on April 21 in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Mini Level 1 squad was runner-up and also earned a partial paid bid to The Florida Finals.
