BERNE — Ryan Braun helped the Indians build a 10-point lead after the first quarter.
Lars In’t Groen and the Starfires took over from there.
The South Adams High School boys basketball team kept Fort Recovery to just two points in the second quarter and In’t Groen was dominant in the final three periods Tuesday as the Starfires defeated the Indians at Stardome, 38-37.
A 14-2 edge in the second quarter put South Adams (3-4) out front 19-17, and the two-point advantage stood heading into the final period.
The Indians (4-2) were able to get a little bit of offense going in the fourth quarter but came up short of a road win.
In’t Groen was 9-of-12 from the field and added a pair of free throws on his way to a game- and career-high 20 points. He had 14 points in the second half, and tallied six rebounds. Grant Besser and James Arnold had five points a piece in support of In’t Groen.
Payton Jutte made four of his 13 3-point attempts on his way to a team-best 19 points for FRHS. He hauled in a game-high eight rebounds.
Braun scored all six of his points in the first quarter, and Cade Wendel was third on the team with five points for the Tribe.
The Tribe was just 14-of-47 (29.8 percent) from the field, while South Adams shot 16-of-34 (47.1 percent).
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team relied on its deep bench to snag a 46-25 victory.
Tribe freshman Regan Martin had a game-high 16 points, including four baskets from behind the arc. Brian Bihn followed with eight points while Ian Homan and Dillan Evers both had five points. Eight players scored for the Indians.
Nick Miller’s 16 points led the Starfires, who also got five points each from Brayden Gilbert and Spencer Fear.
