Deer struck

An Ohio woman hit a deer with the car she was driving early Wednesday morning. 

Alexandra L. Pease, 23, Coldwater, Ohio, was driving west on county road 300 North near its intersection with county road 200 East when a deer ran into the roadway. She was unable to avoid hitting it with the 2012 Dodge Avenger she was driving. The vehicle is registered to Phillip J. Ontrop, Fort Recovery. 

Damage in the 6:38 a.m. collision is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000. 

Theft

A Portland man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shoplifting from Walmart. 

Thomas M. Jessup, 48, 903 W. Race St., was preliminarily charged with theft: receiving stolen property, a Class A misdemeanor. According to a Portland Police Department report, Jessup allegedly stole three pairs of headphones, valued at $54.53, from Walmart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland. 

Jessup was booked at 5:35 p.m. into Jay County Jail and was later released on a $1,000 bond.
