Eileen Shaver, age 94, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.
Eileen was born on August 10, 1923, in Oakwood, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Cederholm) Gillette. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1943 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Women’s Army Corps. Eileen married Harmon Shaver on November 4, 1945 and he passed away on October 27, 1987. She retired in 1985 from CTS in Berne after 21 years of service. She was a member of the Portland Eagles Auxiliary where she served as Secretary, Women of the Moose in Portland, Portland DAV and the Friendship Club of Portland.
Survivors include: 3 daughters: Charlotte DeVoss (husband Tim) – Portland, Helen Martin (husband Paul), Alena Brandenburg (husband Gil) – Warrenton, Virginia; 2 sons: DeWayne Shaver (wife Sandy), Portland, David Shaver (wife Lise), Portland, Indiana, 1 sister, Dorothy Gilbert, Green Spring, Ohio; 1 son-in-law:, Dexter Nichols, Portland; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Nichols.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Graveside services will follow at the chapel in Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Pastor Allison Yankey will officiate.
Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Cancer Society.
