Virginia Conkling
Virginia Conkling age 96, Portland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk. She was born in Penn Township Jay County July 2, 1921, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Hartup) Paxson. She was married October 25, 1941 to Fred Conkling and he died November 11, 2008.
She was a cook for Jay School Corporation having worked in Pennville, Judge Haynes and Jay County High School. She also worked at Happy Humpty, Pauline’s Cute Kiddies and G.C. Murphy, all in Portland. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and graduate of Petroleum High School.
Surviving are a daughter Credith Kraner of Lake Elsinore, California; grandson Ronn Kraner of Lake Elsinore, California; and granddaughter Courtney Smyth of Spokane, Washington; and great-granddaughter Teagan Smyth of Spokane, Washington. She was preceded in death by a son, Al Conkling.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 30, at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Allison Yankey presiding. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Pennville.
