West Jay MS names kids to honor roll

West Jay Middle School named students to the honor roll for the second nine-week grading period.

Named to the all A honor roll in sixth grade were Courtney Benter, JaiDi Brunson, Spencer Caldwell, Astella Fisher, Haylea Hough, Abigail Johnson and Isaiah Weekly.

Sixth graders named to the A-B honor roll were Alex Ardizzone, Gabriela Bilbrey, Danyelle Bland, Taylor Brown, Zander Champ, Thomas Charles, James Clark Jr., Raven Dale, Abbie Fields, Paige Gillette, Liberty Keller, James Larrowe, John Mason, Caylie Newsome, Dominick Newsome, Erin Pennington, Caden Phenis, Lilly Rogers,  Grace Shimp, Julian Vance, Peyton Vaughn, Tavin Wasson, Jaiden Watson and Logan Zimmerman.

Named to the all A honor roll in seventh grade were Quentin Beeks, Quinn Faulkner, Aaron Funkhouser, Nadia Hardman and Isabel Rodgers. 

Seventh graders named to the A-B honor roll were Madeline Ardizzone, Taryn Caldwell, Elizabeth Dollar, Lorettta Eicher, Madison Hammers, Aubri Hatzell, Rochelle Jackson and Kess McBride.

Named to the all A honor roll in eighth grade were Abigail Benter, Chloe Campbell, Lillian Clemmons, Sophia Fugiett, Demi Grove, Hannah Littler and Grace Morgan.

Eighth graders named to the A-B honor roll were Sofia Barcus, Chelsea Blankenship, Haley Corwin, Lewis Crump, Ashlyn Denney, Lyric Garringer, Travis Garringer, Haley Gillette, Victoria Jackson, Logan Kelley, Taylor Lowe, Hunter Miller, Xavier Moon, Justice Murphy, Hannah Outcalt, Jayden Price, Makenzie Ring, Kinsey Shannon, Gary Shutz, Kaleb Weaver and Kaley Young. 



Comfort Bag drive

Girl Scout Troop No. 03175 is working toward their Bronze Award and will hold an event on Monday.

A Chemo Comfort Bag drive will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Dairy Queen parking lot on Meridian Street in Portland.

Items needed are chapstick, fuzzy socks, small puzzle books, ink pens, lotions and other things that will comfort chemo patients.



Library news

Find out what all the hoopla is about at Jay County Public Library.


On Monday the library will add the new service “hoopla,” which will offer free access to movies, music and audiobooks online.

Digital material can be accessed anywhere on a computer or mobile device.

Beginning Monday anyone with a library card and valid email address can visit https://hoopladigital.com and sign in.



Spelling Bee winners

The Spelling Bee winner at East Elementary was Inara Sanderson and the runner-up was Mallory Winner.



CPR class

A Heartsaver CPR and First Aid class will be held  from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion, 1201 Emmental Drive in Berne.

Dean’s list

Kyle Selvey, a graduate of Jay County High School, was named to the fall term dean’s list at Huntington University.
