ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Indians have often pulled away during the second half in many of its wins this season.

Thursday was no different, as a strong third quarter propelled them to their 14th win of the season.

Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team led from start to finish and used a 28-point third quarter to create distance in a 65-31 victory over the host Parkway Panthers.

The Division III No. 6 Indians (14-1, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) had a 32-15 lead at halftime before exploding during the third quarter. The FRHS defense, meanwhile, held the Panthers (3-14, 0-7 MAC) to just nine points during the third as the Tribe led 60-24 heading into the final period.

Whitney Will led all players with 16 points. Her eight rebounds were good enough for a three-way tie with Brooke Kahlig and Val Muhlenkamp for the game high. Grace Thien made four of her 10 3-point attempts on her way to  14 points, and Kiah Wendel chipped in eight points.

Carley Stone dished a game-high seven assists.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 31-12, in two quarters of play. Muhlenkamp had a game-best 14 points, with Olivia Patch and Kahlig adding six points each.



Rally falls short

BERNE — The South Adams boys basketball team put up a late rally but fell short in a 63-59 loss to the Woodlan Warriors

The Starfires (7-8, 2-3 Allen County Athletic Conference), who have lost three straight games, trailed after every quarter. They were behind 18-13 after the first period and were down 35-27 at half. Woodlan (10-7, 4-1 ACAC), which remained atop the conference standings, led 50-41 before holding off the Starfires in the final eight minutes.

Marcus Teeter was 5-for-12 from the 3-point line on his way to a game-high 27 points. Jared Grabau chipped in 14 points to go with his five rebounds, and Kody Fike had four points and seven rebounds. Nick Wurster chipped in seven points.

Trevon McCarter (17), Aaron Hahn (16) and Austin Fancher (14) each scored in double figures for Woodlan.

The SAHS junior varsity team also lost, 49-48. Grant Besser led the Starfires wtih 14 points, and Lars In’t Groen added 10 points.
