WINAMAC — The Starfires used a strong second quarter to build their lead.

The Cougars returned the favor in the third, and SAHS couldn’t catch up.

South Adams High School’s girls basketball team had its season come to an end Saturday with a 34-33 loss to Central Noble in the Class 2A regional semifinal at Winamac.

Central Noble, which is ranked eighth in the state, went on to defeat Delphi 63-40 in the regional championship and advances to the semi-state against Oak Hill at Logansport.

South Adams (16-10) broke open a 10-10 game to lead 23-15 at half. The Cougars (27-2), scored the first nine points of the second half to lead 24-23, and the Starfires weren’t able to pull off the upset.

Junior Lexi Dellinger led the Starfires with 17 points, including a 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line. Madi Wurster chipped in six points, and Sydney Pierce added five points. Calyssa Lehman scored four points, and Kayla LeFever made one free throw.



Swimmers move on

DEFIANCE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys and girls swim teams sent a total of eight to the district meet from the Division II sectional at Ayersville on Saturday.

The Division II Northwest District meet is Friday at Bowling Green State University.

The FRHS girls placed seventh out of 13 teams at Ayersville. Scores were not provided.

Sophomore Cassidy Martin finished second in the 50-yard freestyle, and broke her own school record in the 100 freestyle by finishing third in 56.24 seconds.

Alexis Bubp was one spot behind Martin in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races, and Sophie Timmerman was second in the 100 breaststroke.

The trio joined Faith Hull to place third in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to reach the district meet.

Fort Recovery’s boys set new records in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Harrison Kaup, Robby LeFevre, Owen Sheridan and Nolan Thobe combined to win the former in 1 minute, 40.19 seconds, and the latter in 3:55.02.



Cavs top Tribe

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team had its hopes of at least a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference title slip away Saturday with a 45-40 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers.

The Division III No. 4 Indians (15-2, 6-2 MAC) fell behind 16-11 but rallied to tie the game at 21 heading into intermission. The Cavaliers (16-4, 7-2 MAC) had a 12-6 advantage in the third quarter to take a 33-27 lead after three quarters. The Tribe had its best offensive performance in the final eight minutes but couldn’t make up the deficit.

Grace Thien was 3-for-8 from long range and finished with 12 points to lead the Indians, who got 10 points from Whitney Will and nine from Carley Stone.

Jocelyn Kaiser totaled six points, and Chloe Showalter added three points.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team defeated Coldwater, 25-13, in two quarters of action.

Val Muhlenkamp scored 11 points to lead the Tribe. Showalter followed with seven points, while Aleigha Jenkins, Macy Day and Brooke Kahlig each scored two points.
