Jay County’s IHSAA enrollment drops

INDIANAPOLIS — Hoops fans hoping the Patriots will soon drop down a class may have to wait another two years.

The IHSAA on Monday released its enrollment figures for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years for its upcoming reclassification.

The IHSAA realigns its classes based on school enrollment every two years.

Jay County High School, which in the current classification is the smallest school in Class 4A, had its enrollment drop to 1,060 from 1,114, making it the 100th-largest out of the 407 member schools.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (1,075), Kankakee Valley (1,083) and Jasper (1,093) are the three schools directly above Jay County in terms of enrollment, with Columbia City (1,056), Marion (1,053) and Gary West Side (1,046) the three below.

The IHSAA will release its new classifications within the next two weeks.

ACAC teams announced

The Allen County Athletic Conference released its all-conference girls basketball teams Monday.

Jay County, which won the conference tournament for the third consecutive season and shared the regular-season title with South Adams, had two players make the first team and one named to the second team. The Starfires had two earn first-team honors.

Jay County seniors Taylor Homan and Britlyn Dues capped their high school careers by being named first team All-ACAC.

South Adams juniors Lexi Dellinger and Madi Wurster, who helped lead the Starfires to their first sectional championship since 1995, were the only juniors named to the first team. Woodlan’s Rain Hinton and Zoey Pearson of Bluffton were also given first-team honors.

JCHS junior Hanna Ault earned a nod to the second team, which also included Heritage senior Rozlynn Everhart, junior Gabby Streveler of Bluffton, Southern Wells juniors Jada Johnson and Jessica Yencer, and Woodlan freshman Addie Bayman.
