Three Patriots set new career-best scores.

They helped the team to its highest score of the season.

The Jay County High School gymnastics team set a new season-best team score in its 100.35-95.825 loss to the Huntington North Vikings on Tuesday.

It was the final home meet of the season for the Patriots.

Sophomore Karlie Bullard finished in the top three in each event, including a first-place finish with a career-best 8.35 on uneven bars. She added an 8.625 on vault (second), 8.235 on balance beam (second) and 8.95 on floor exercise (third) to earn a career-best 34.25 in the all-around, which placed first.

Riley Leavell earned her best score of 8.075 on the floor exercise. She added a 7.875 on beam, 7.65 on vault and 7.45 on beam to finish third with an all-around total of 31.05, which was third.

Freshman Rachel Louck set a career-best on the bars, totaling 7.75. She added an 8.05 on vault, 6.275 on beam and 8.625 on floor to score 30.525 in the all-around.

Kaitlyn Morningstar had a 5.85 on beam for a new career best, and added a 7.0 on vault and 6.575 on floor.



Tribe blasts Bulldogs

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team used two streaks of 20 or more points on Tuesday as it blasted the Celina Bulldogs, 64-9.

The Indians (16-2), who dipped to a tie for eighth in the Division III Associated Press poll after losing to Coldwater on Saturday, scored 20 straight points in the first half as it led 34-6 at the break. Fort Recovery then used a stretch of 27 consecutive points during the second half to continue its domination, while forcing a total of 24 Celina turnovers.

FRHS senior Whitney Will led all players with 20 points, and classmate Jocelyn Kaiser chipped in 13 points. Val Muhlenkamp had a career-high 10 points off the bench to go with her seven rebounds. Audra Metzger had a game-high eight boards. 

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also came out on the winning end of a lopsided score, beating the Bulldogs 29-5.

Brooke Kahlig paced the Indians with 10 points, while Lydia Wenning contributed eight points. Macy Day added six points.

 
All-state wrestlers

Three Jay County wrestlers were named to academic all state teams in their respective classes.

Ivan Hemmelgarn and Tyler Leonhard, both seniors who had their careers come to a close Saturday at semi-state, both earned first-team senior academic all state. Leonhard finished the season 36-5, while Hemmelgarn had a 35-6 record.

Mitchell Ferguson, a junior, earned honorable mention to the junior academic all state team.

The trio helped Jay County win both the Allen County Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships, as well as the East Central Indiana Classic, New Haven Invitational and Coldwater Invitational titles.
