Spelling Bee winners
Judge Haynes Elementary recently held its annual Spelling Bee. The winner of was Ryne Goldsworthy. He is afifth grade student and the son of Carissa Allred and Matt Goldsworthy.
The runner-up was Alexa Bravo. She is afourth grade student and the daughter of Esmeralda and Raman Bravo.
Speech winners
Winners for the Optimist Oratorical Speech Contest were named at area schools.
East Elementary School winners were Maddy Snow and Nathan Lothridge. The runner-up was Kenzie Landon.
Pennville Elementary School winners were Rosie T.R. Eicher, the daughter of Toby D. and Rosa J. Eicher and Gabe Pinkerton, the son of Rex and Cathy Pinkerton.
Runners-up were Mattie Affolder, the granddaughter of Charlene Wilder, and John Graber, the son of David B. and Anna J. Graber.
General Shanks Elementary School winners were Aubrey Millspaugh, the daughter of Timothy and Kristin Millspaugh and Nicholas Lyons, the son of Matt and Tammy Lyons.
Runners-up were Katelynn Landers, the daughter of Angela Landers, and Sam Myers, the son of Nathan and Amy Myers.

Friends of the Fort Recovery Public Library are sponsoring an event for an Indiana author.
Monica Koldyke Miller will speak at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Fort Library.
Miller will discuss how she got her start in writing and her first published book “Threads of Betrayal.” She will have books available for signing.
