FORT RECOVERY — Micaiah Cox’s final point of the night was a big one.
It wasn’t a game winner, nor did it give his team the lead — the Indians won by 39. But it did give him a special place in Indiana history.
Cox, a Fort Recovery High School senior, scored 31 points Saturday, the last of which propelled him into the 1,000-point club as the Indians defeated the McComb Panthers, 80-41. Cox is the 16th Tribe player to reach 1,000 points.
Fort Recovery (13-7) led from the start, jumping out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter. The Tribe continued to put pressure on the Panthers on both ends of the court, pushing the advantage to 55-19 at halftime.
During the fourth quarter, with the Indians ahead 74-29, Cox made two bonus free throws, the second of which put him in school history. Cox finished 11-for-18 from the field including making both of his 3-point attempts. He was also 7-of-11 from the free-throw line and had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Caleb Martin was second on the team with 16 points, and Travis Sutter joined them in double figures with 13 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 45-28. Blayne Thobe led the Tribe with 11 points, and Trevor Vaughn chipped in 10 points. Reese Rogers tallied nine points, and Ian Homan added seven points.
