Two Indians make all-MAC first team
Will earns honor in consecutive years, sharpshooter Thien gets first nod
For the second consecutive year, Whitney Will is among the best in the conference.
And in back-to-back seasons, she’s got a teammate with her.
Will, a Fort Recovery High School senior, and junior Grace Thien were both named to the all-Midwest Athletic Conference first team this morning.
Senior Jocelyn Kaiser earned second-team honors, and junior Carley Stone was given honorable mention.
Will, who has signed to play for the University of Saint Francis, led the Division III No. 8 Indians to a 17-3 (6-3 MAC) record and the No. 2 seed in the Elida District, which begins Wednesday with the sectional semifinal against Parkway at Wapakoneta. Will had a team high in points per game (14.5) and field goal percentage (59.9 percent). Her five rebounds per game was second on the team, and she was third on the squad by shooting 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. Will also had a team-high 30 blocks, more than 20 more than Thien in second.
Thien, whose 55 3-pointers this season is a new school record, was second on the team with 11 points per game and fourth in rebounds (4.1). She shot 44.7 percent from long range, and Thursday she tied Tammy Thobe’s school record of six 3-pointers in a game. Thobe set the mark on Feb. 15, 1995.
Kaiser, who signed to play for Capital University, was third on the team in both scoring (9.95) and rebounding (4.8). She led the team in free-throw shooting percentage with 78.8 percent.
Stone led the team in rebounds (5.1) while finishing fourth in scoring at 6.7 points per game.
