A woman who competed in three consecutive Iditarod races is set to speak at Jay County Public Library on April 1 as part of a month of planned Iditarod events. 

Karen Land, an Indiana native, covered the sport as a writer, became a dog handler in 1999 and then a competitor in 2002. 

Land will bring one of her dogs to the event to begin at 10 a.m. in the Community Room.

There will also be video streaming of this year’s Iditarod at the library beginning with the ceremony on Saturday. Come and pick your favorite team and look for a Husky as  it hides around the library. 

Drop in to do an Iditarod themed craft from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 27; Building Day and the showing of the movie “Balto” will be at 2:30 p.m. on March 28; “Snow Buddies” will be from at 1:30 p.m. on March 29 and Iditarod Crafts will be from 2 to 5 p.m.; Build Your Own Igloo will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on March 30, followed by the showing of “Iron Will” at 6 p.m.; Game Day will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 31.  

Other happenings at the library are the  JayCPL Coupon Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, in the Community Room. 

Also Liz Lawson was named as the newest member of the JCPL?board. She is a retired art teacher from the Jay School Corporation.
