Open house to be held Thursday for 4-H

Jay County 4-H will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the 4-H Exhibit Hall at Jay County Fairgrounds.

Come and meet new educator Erica Widmer and enjoy activities and snacks. 

Enrollment for 4-H continues through Jan. 15 and computers will be available. Also 4-H club leaders will be on hand to help.

Page applications 

There are two opportunities available for students to serve as pages.

State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) announced that applications are being accepted to serve as a page in the Indiana Senate.

Students in grades six through 12 will get to meet their state senator, tour the Indiana Statehouse, observe session debates on the Senate Floor and assist staff with tasks. 

The program runs from Jan. 23 through mid-April. For more information or to apply, visit www.indianasenaterepublicans.com/page-program. 

Also State Representative Greg Beumer is offering a chance to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2017 legislative session. 

Students age 13 through 18 will spend the day touring the House and Senate chambers, the Indiana Supreme Court and governor’s office, observe the legislative session directly from the floor of the house and listen to debates on important issues.

They will also get to file or deliver messages.

Library programs

The children’s program Mother Goose & Me will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland. 

Mother Goose & Me will also be held on Jan. 13, 20 and 27.

Cookbook Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. on Monday at the library. Bring a casserole dish,  the recipe to share and table service.

Dean’s list   

Area students were named to the  University of Northwestern Ohio’s fall quarter dean’s list.

They were Chase Bruns and Kelsey Fiely of Fort Recovery.
