ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Indians are still perfect.
And they’re still in the hunt for a conference title.
Whitney Will and Jocelyn Kaiser each scored 22 points on Thursday in leading the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team to a 65-44 victory over the St. Henry Redskins.
The win moves the Tribe to 7-0 on the season and puts it in a three-way tie with Minster and Versailles atop the Midwest Athletic Conference standings. All three teams are 3-0.
Kaiser was 9-of-14 from the field and Will had a 7-for-12 effort. Both also made one of their three 3-point attempts. Kaiser sank all three of her free throws while Will was 7-of-9 from the stripe.
Grace Thien made two triples on her way to 10 points, and Carley Stone had a team-high seven rebound to go with her seven points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team defeated the Redskins 15-10 in two quarters of action. Brooke Kahlig had a game-high six points, and Chloe Showalter tallied five. Olivia Patch contributed four points.
Star girls 10-0
BLUFFTON — South Adams’ girls swim team improved to 10-0 on the season Thursday with a 113-70 victory over Allen County Athletic Conference rival Bluffton.
Bluffton’s boys defeated the Starfires, 122-63.
Ashley LeFever, Ashton Klopp and Brette Klopp each won two individual events for the SAHS girls. LeFever took first in the 50-meter freestyle and 100 butterfly. Ashton Klopp won the 200 and 400 freestyle races while her twin sister Brette beat the field in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
Audrey Burson earned a victory in the 100 breaststroke.
The Starfires won all three relays as well.
Zach Colpaert was the lone dual winner for the SAHS boys. He was victorious in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Zach Teeple wont he 200 freestyle, and South Adams also finished first in the 200 freestyle relay.
Swim teams lose
Jay County’s boys and girls swim teams both lost to the visiting Celina Bulldogs on Thursday.
The girls lost a close one, 157-151. The loss drops the Patriots to 6-3 on the year.
Jay County’s boys fell to the Bulldogs, 175-106.
Individual times and places were not provided.
The Patriots host the Jay County Invitational this weekend, beginning with the diving competition at 5:30 p.m. tonight. Swimming begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Patriots fall in second
Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team lost its lead in the second quarter and couldn’t recover in a 60-53 loss Thursday to the Anderson Indians.
The Patriots (2-5) had a 16-10 advantage after the first quarter before the Indians outscored the hosts 20-13 in the second. Jay County then trailed 46-35 after three quarters before putting up a rally that fell short in the fourth.
Gabe Link led the Patriots with 21 points, including eight in the first quarter. Brian Williams tallied 13 points, while Payton Nichols and Noah Arbuckle contributed five points each.
Sheldon Upp followed with four points, Braydon Sprunger tallied three and Gavin Lambert had two points.
East Jay tops Blackford
The East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both beat Blackford on Thursday.
The seventh grade squad won 39-18, while the eighth graders defeated the Bruins 47-27.
Dylan Knapschafer led the EJMS seventh graders (9-0) with eight points, and Crosby Heniser was close behind with seven. Darrius Esparza and Gavin Muhlenkamp chipped in five points apiece, while Ethan Dirksen tallied four points.
Bailey Cox paced the eighth grade Chiefs (6-3) with 14 points. Landon Grimes and Brody Auker recorded seven points each. Cameron Langenkamp and Brian Zhang each added four points.
Eagles fall to Chiefs
West Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team lost to the East Jay Chiefs on Tuesday, 26-19.
Quinn Faulkner and Nick Street led the offense for the Eagles. They both totaled six points.
Camdin Harrison followed with five points, and Trenton Alexander also had two points.
Eagles drop opener
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams dropped their season openers to Union City on Thursday.
The A team fell 42-17, and the B squad lost 27-4.
Spencer Caldwell led the WJMS A team with eight points. Skyler Bee followed with three points, while Tavin Wasson, Landon Lowe and Isaiah Weekley contributed two points each.
Landon Weaver and Gabe Goodspeed scored two points apiece for the B team.
