YORKTOWN — Jay County High School’s boys and girls swim teams both fell to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday.
The JCHS girls won four events in a 114-71 loss, and the boys fell 122-59.
Alex Bader won two events for the Jay County girls. The junior was first in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.72 seconds, and followed with a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.11.
Samantha Link earned the only other individual win, scoring 177.15 points to beat a field of seven divers.
The Patriots’ 200 freestyle relay team of Elizabeth McDowell, Vivienne Kunkler, Erica Hathaway and Bader won in 1:51.87.
On the boys side, freshman Chase McFarland earned his first career victory, winning the 50 freestyle in 27.82 seconds.
Jay County’s girls fell to 6-3 on the year, and the boys are 0-8.
Tribe hold off ’Riders
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery boys basketball team held off a late push in a 53-50 win Tuesday over the St. Marys Roughriders.
The Indians (7-1) overcame an 11-4 deficit after the first quarter to lead 21-18 at half. The three-point margin remained after three quarters before the Tribe built an 11-point lead with 1:52 to play. Fort Recovery wasn’t able to score for the remainder of the game but weathered a late surge by St. Marys.
Caleb Martin had a season-high 16 points to lead Fort Recovery. Micaiah Cox followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Matt Bihn joined them in double figures with 11 points. Payton Jutte contributed seven points off the bench.
Derek Jay of St. Marys led all players with 18 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost, 29-20. Ethan Schoen was the team’s leading scorer with five points. Grant Knapke contributed four points and Will Homan had three.
Star teams split
BERNE — South Adams’ swim team split a meet with Bellmont on Tuesday.
The SAHS girls won all 12 events in their 132-43 victory. The boys fell 99-84.
Ashley LeFever, Ashton Klopp and Caroline Kloepper each won two races for the Starfire girls. LeFever was first in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, Klopp earned victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, and Kloepper took the freestyle sprints.
Also picking up individual wins were Isabel Von Gunten (diving), Brette Klopp (500 freestyle) and Audrey Burson (100 breaststroke). South Adams also won all three relays.
Zach Colpaert was the lone dual winner for the SAHS boys. He claimed the top spot in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Zach Teeple won the 100 backstroke, and Paul Neuenschwander was first in the 100 breaststroke.
South Adams’ 200 freestyle relay team also finished first.
