Services for C. Dean Burgess, 69, Portland, are 7 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church Annex in Geneva, with the Rev. Paul VanCise officiating. He died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Adams County to Wilford R. and Velma M. (Jack) Burgess, he graduated from Geneva High School in 1966.
He married Jeannie Lorraine Rines on April 5, 1985, in Jay County, and she preceded him in death.
A veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of Portland American Legion Post No. 211.
He had worked at Jinny’s gas station, Bearcreek Crossing and Pak-A-Sak in Bryant and Pak-A-Sak in Berne.
Surviving are two sons, Matthew Dean Burgess, Iowa City, Iowa, and Dean Lucas Burgess, Portland; two daughters, Candice L. Burgess (husband: Eric), Iowa City, Iowa, and Amanda Crystal Robinson (Josh Spoltman), Bryant; a sister, Josephine Price, Camden Tennessee; two brothers, Sonny Burgess, Portland, and Darrell Burgess, Geneva; his father-in-law; a granddaughter; and companion, Sharon Shawver, Geneva.
Visitation is 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church annex. Burial will be in Little Salamonie Cemetery, Portland.
Memorials may be sent to Bryant Wesleyan Church or to the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
