FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Four games in nine days have taken their toll on the Indians.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team lost its fourth straight game on Saturday, 51-42 to the Fort Loramie Redskins.
The Indians (9-5) tied the score at 18 with 1:56 to play in the first half after trailing for most of the previous 14 minutes. The Redskins took the lead the next time down the court and never gave it up.
Fort Loramie led by as many as 15 points just past the midway point of the fourth quarter.
Payton Jutte led the Indians with 15 points, including nine from behind the 3-point line. Caleb Martin was second with eight points, while Ryan Braun and Matt Bihn both had four points.
Dillon Braun paced the Redskins with 21 points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost, 51-25. Will Homan was the Tribe’s leading scorer with six points while Grant Knapke chipped in six.
FR breaks record
Fort Recovery’s boys swim team set a new school record Saturday during the Coldwater Invitational held at Jay County.
The Indians finished second with 91 points, behind champion Versailles (130) and ahead of New Bremen (90). The Tribe’s girls scored 100 points for third, behind Minster (157) and New Bremen (112).
Harrison Kaup, Nolan Thobe, Owen Sheridan and Robby LeFevre set a new school record in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 42.38 seconds. They also combined to win the 200 medley relay in 1:56.98.
Alexis Bubp and Cassy Martin each won a pair of events for the girls team. Bubp was first in the 200 individual medley (2:25.37) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.96) while Martin won the 50 freestyle (25.61) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.02).
Sophie Timmerman and Faith Hull joined Martin and Bubp to win both the 200 medley relay (1:58.83) and 200 freestyle relay (1:47.6).
SA stumbles
PONETO — South Adams shot just 28 percent from the field in a 69-47 loss to the Southern Wells Raiders on Friday.
The Starfires (7-7, 2-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) fell behind 19-11 after the first quarter and saw the deficit balloon to 30-18 heading into halftime. Southern Wells (9-8, 2-3 ACAC) outscored South Adams 20-13 in the third period before adding to its lead in the final eight minutes.
Lucas Bluhm finished 5-for-8 from 3-point range to finish with a career-best 15 points in leading the Starfires. Marcus Teeter was second on the team with a dozen points. Jared Grabau joined them in double figures with 10 points while also grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.
South Adams’ junior varsity team won 58-46. Grant Besser led SAHS with 20 points, and Terry Dawn contributed 13 points.
Chief 7th wins title
PONETO — East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball claimed the Allen County Athletic Conference championship Saturday morning with a 45-25 victory over the Bluffton Tigers at Southern Wells.
The eighth grade Chiefs fell in the final to South Adams, 26-24.
Ethan Dirksen led the way for the EJMS seventh grade team, pouring in 23 points. Gaven Muhlenkamp tallied 13 points to join him in double figures. Hunter Chapman contributed three points, Adam Muhlenkamp and Gavin Myers had two points apiece.
For the eighth grade Chiefs, Cameron Langenkamp scored nine points to lead the team in the defeat. Brody Auker added six points, Landon Grimes chipped in five points and Bailey Cox tallied four points.
