Jay County High School’s freshman boys basketball team dropped a 45-34 game to the New Castle Trojans on Monday.
The Patriots (4-8) fell behind 13-10 after the first quarter before trailing 29-22 at halftime. The Trojans posted a 9-4 advantage in the third period to go on top 38-26. Jay County outscored New Castle 8-7 in the last seven minutes in the loss.
Gabe Link scored five points in each of the first two quarters on his way to a game-high 16 points. Brian Williams was second on the team with eight points, and Sheldon Upp followed with six points.
Gavin Lambert chipped in three points and Brayden Sprunger had a free throw.
Eagles drop finale
PARKER CITY — The West Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both dropped their season finales Monday to the Monroe Central Golden Bears.
The WJMS eighth graders lost 44-23, and the seventh grade team lost a close one, 33-32.
Logan Brown and Luke Haggard scored six points each for the eighth graders. Lane Chapman followed with five points, and Hunter Shumaker had three points. Jaron Alexander chipped in two points and Riley Foster had a free throw.
Quinn Faulkner led the seventh graders with 21 points in the loss. Camdin Harrison scored five points, Trenton Alexander chipped in three points, Nick Streen had two points and Kess McBride made one free throw.
Chiefs down Eagles
DUNKIRK — East Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams both defeated the West Jay Eagles on Monday.
The EJMS A squad won 58-6, and the B team won 28-12.
Bennett Weitzel had a game-high 14 points for the East Jay A team.
Carter Link tallied nine points, Blake Bogenschutz recorded eight and Josh Dowlen and Peter Muhlenkamp scored six points each.
Landon Lowe, Skyler Bee and Spencer Caldwell had two points each for West Jay.
In the B contest, Isaac Kunkler led East Jay with eight points. Allen Dues and Caleb Darnell chipped in five points each, and Conner McFarland contributed four points.
Caldwell paced West Jay with eight points, and Gabe Goodspeed notched four points.
Chief 6th loses
WINCHESTER — The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball teams both lost to the host Driver Hawks on Monday.
The A team lost 54-18, and the B team fell 31-4.
Olivia Waters led the A team with eight points, and Renna Schwieterman chipped in seven points. Lyda Keihn also tallied three points.
Madison Brunswick scored all four points for the B team in the lopsided defeat.
