Time to head to the fairgrounds
Editorial
It’s that time.
It’s time to unplug from the internet, turn off your devices, and get out of the house.
It’s time to trade Facebook for face-to-face with your neighbors.
It’s county fair time.
For the next several days, you’ll have a remarkable opportunity to interact with your community on a personal level. And chances are you’ll have fun while doing so.
Who knows?
You might even learn something.
The Jay County Fair is, in a way, a smorgasbord. And it’s best enjoyed like a smorgasbord, sampling a little of this and a little of that, getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new.
Never wandered through the 4-H livestock exhibits?
You’re missing something.
Been awhile since you tasted an elephant ear? Maybe it’s time to go off that diet.
Even longtime fans of the fair sometimes fall into a rut, checking out the same attractions every year. That’s a shame, because the fair still holds plenty of surprises, whether it’s live entertainment in front of the grandstand or a conversation with an exhibitor in the Bubp Building or a full card of harness racing.
Sample something new this year and you’ll understand what we’re talking about. And if you haven’t been to the Jay County Fair recently, telling yourself that you’ve “been there, done that,” then you’ve been missing out.
Unplug. Power down the computer and turn off the TV.
