ORLANDO — Lizzie Dollar picked the biggest stage to become her school’s best shooter.

Dollar, a West Jay Middle School seventh grader, set a new school record by shooting a 279 in the National Archery in the Schools Program World Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Orange County Convention Center.

A perfect score is 300.

Dollar, who was 21st overall out of 252 seventh grade girls, led a contingent of a dozen Eagle competitors who combined to score 3,135 to place 30th out of 66 middle school teams. Benton (Louisiana) had the top overall score of 3,363.

Tucker Corwin and Kaley Young were both one point behind Dollar as they each shot season-best scores. Young’s total was good enough to place her 35th out of 249 eighth grade girls, and Corwin was 42nd out of 230 eighth grade boys.

Shooting 260 or above were Aaron Funkhouser (266), Travis Garringer (262) and JaiDi Brunson (260).

Also competing were Mason Rogers (256), Haley Gillette (256), Raven Dale (252), Drew Powers (252), Alex Ardizzone (250) and Lane Chapman (245).

Justin Miller of Hartland (Michigan) and Henry Thompson of Anderson (Kentucky) were the top boys shooters at 297.

Emmaline Kleinman of Crosby (Kentucky) and Easter Swain of Meigs (Ohio) posted 295 for the best girl performances.
