Bryce Wenk hit a home run and Austin Curtis had four hits as Kiwanis edged Portland Optimist 10-9 on Friday in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.
Wenk also notched a single and drove in three runs. Carter Barton and Sylas Wenk each added hits, while Gavin Young tallied an RBI. Brothers Bryce and Sylas Wenk combined to strike out 11 batters on the mound.
Jeremiah Canterbury had a triple, a single and an RBI for Optimist. Dominick Bright and AJ Myers both had triples, while Bright also had a double. Landon Garringer smacked a double while Jayden Harrell and Griffin Byrum both had a hit and an RBI.
Homestead wins
Homestead Bedding picked up a 16-4 victory over Portland Optimist in PJL’s Rookie softball division on Friday.
Brooklynn Bright, Ella Champ and Hailee Randall each went 4-for-4 for Homestead. Bright had a triple, a double and two singles while driving in six runs and scoring twice. Champ scored four times and had one RBI, while Randall hit in three runs. Harlow Hough was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Stella Skirvin was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Raylin Hummer, Caylin Aker and Madalyn Brewster were all 2-for-2 for Optimist. Aker and Brewster both scored once. Carley Trinidad and Evelyn Carter each had hits.
Barnett leads
Boston Barnett had three hits, three RBIs and scored twice in leading Barnett’s Auto Parts to a 9-3 victory over Williams Auto Parts on Saturday in PJL’s Rookie baseball action.
Skyler Esparza had two doubles and scored twice. Benson Barnett had a double and a single with one RBI and two runs. Kasen Ferguson had a hit and a run, and Memphis Torre scored once.
Williams stats were not provided.
Trinity edges
Trinity United Methodist Church edged Portland Optimist 13-12 on Saturday in Rookie softball division of Portland Junior League.
Aleiah Canterbury had four hits and scored three times. Erin Aker, Opal Garrett and Kayleigh Stevenson were all 4-for-4 with two runs, and Paityn Wendel went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.
Carley Trinidad notched four hits and three runs for Optimist. Mackenzie Curtis was 2-for-4 with three runs, while Bristol Brewster, Raylin Hummer and Eva Carter collected three hits and two runs apiece.
Optimist holds on
In Rookie softball action of Portland Junior League, Portland Optimist held on for a 7-6 victory over Display Craft on Saturday.
Raylin Hummer had a double and two singles to lead Optimist. Carley Trinidad collected a double and a single, while Eva Carter had a pair of singles. Brena and Bristol Brewster both added singles.
Natalie May led Display Craft with four hits, while Olivia Gillium notched three singles. Makenna Avery and Makynli Foster both had a pair of hits.
Homestead wins big
Homestead Bedding picked up a lopsided win on Saturday, 18-8, over Trinity United Methodist Church in PJL’s Rookie softball division.
Brooklynn Bright led Homestead with five hits, four runs and three RBIs. Khloe Myers, Baylee Cline, Ayla Jackson and Harlow Hough all had four hits. Myers drove in three runs, while Cline and Hough each knocked in a pair of runs. Jackson scored three times, while Cline and Hough tallied two runs apiece.
Opal Garrett and Aleiah Canterbury led Trinity with three hits apiece. Erin Aker, Kaylynn Clark and Juhlaya Eldeeb all collected two hits.
Two wins
Jay County Therapeutics earned two wins on Saturday in Portland Junior League Rookie softball division.
It defeated Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union 10-7 in the first game, and knocked off First Bank of Berne 11-2 in game two.
Laci McGinnis hit three singles on the day for Jay County Therapeutics, which got two singles from Paige Ingram and Brianna Zorn. Dakota Chowning, Reba Wendel, Tessa Miller and Mallory Winner all had singles.
For Crossroads, Isabella Denton and Madison Reier each had doubles, while Riah Champ chipped in a single.
Paisley Wallace had the only hit for First Bank of Berne.
Kiwanis gets another win
Kiwanis moved to 6-2 on the year with a 15-6 victory on Monday over Portland Lions Club.
Cody Rowles hit two home runs and smacked a triple to go with his game-high six RBIs in leading Kiwanis. Max Klopfenstein collected two doubles and three RBIs, while Bryce Wenk hit two doubles with two RBIs. Carter Barton and Cavan Hartzell each had doubles.
Zac McAbee hit a home run with a double and drove in four RBIs for Lions in the defeat. Timo Minnich blasted a triple, as Isaac Miller, Isaac Scott and Austin Jellison all had singles.
