Four lead in Monument win
Four players had multi-hit games Saturday as Jay County Monuments defeated Graphic Printing 8-5 in Portland Junior League’s Major softball division.
Olivia Bright, Makaya Champ, Britney Mullins and Shadie Canterbury all had two singles and scored once. Bright had a pair of RBIs, and Kearston Myers drove in two runs and had a double.
Shelby Hiestand hit a double and Abby Gillum notched a single for Graphic Printing.
Butcher leads
Gwen Butcher had four doubles and drove in six runs in leading Graphic Printing to a 19-4 victory over Masonic Lodge on Friday in Rookie softball action of PJL.
Hannah Clayton and Shelby Hiestand both had three singles, as Madison Eley collected two singles. Lita Chowning registered a double and a single with an RBI.
Justice Day had a double for Masonic Lodge, which also got singles from Madison Curtis and Mariah Gross.
Optimist wins
Portland Optimist defeated Trinity United Methodist Church 17-13 on Friday in Portland Junior League’s Rookie softball.
Rayin Hummer had five hits, including a home run, for Optimist. Carley Trinidad collected three doubles and a pair of singles. Bristol Brewster notched a double and three singles, Brena Brewster tallied four singles and Eva Carter had three singles.
Kayleigh Stevenson, Erin Aker and Aleia Canterbury all had four hits for Trinity. Stevenson recorded a triple and three singles while Aker ripped a double and three singles.
Pair powers Monument
Makaya Champ and Britney Mullins led Jay County Monument to a 17-14 victory over Redkey Red on Friday in Major softball action of PJL.
Champ hit a grand slam and added a single while driving in five runs. She also scored three times. Mullins had two hits, a pair of runs and two RBIs. Kearsten Myers collected two runs on one hit and a walk.
Stats were not provided for Redkey.
