Bader sisters break four records
Jay County summer swimmers improve to 4-0
BLUFFTON — The Bader sisters had a big night.
Alex Bader set two pool records Thursday and her sisters Eliza and Mara each added one, as did Jason Minnich, as the Jay County Summer Swim Team held off Wells Community 626.5-582.5 to stay undefeated at 4-0.
Two of the records that came down belonged to the eldest Bader sister, Sophie, who completed her career with the team last year. Alex broke Sophie’s pool record in the 15-and-older girls butterfly by more than four seconds in 1 minute, 9.12 seconds, and Mara bested her 2009 pool record in the 11-12-year-old girls 100 freestyle by a half second in 1:12.41.
Eliza Bader’s pool record came as she won the 13-14-year-old girls 50 butterfly in 32.76. That was 0.55 seconds faster than the mark set by Wells Community’s Dani Thomas in 2007.
Alex Bader’s other pool record came as she won the 200 freestyle, a new event this year, and she also took first in the short freestyle. Minnich also set a new pool mark in the 15-and-older boys 200 freestyle.
Other wins for Mara Bader came in the butterfly and breaststroke while Eliza Bader took the top spot in the backstroke and short freestyle.
Ashlyn Dow teamed with Eliza Bader to sweep the 13-14-year-old girls events as she won the long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke. Erica Hathaway joined Alex Bader in sweeping the 15-and-older girls events by taking first in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley.
Other Jay County swimmers winning three events were Adria Roessner (8-and-younger girls long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle), Morgan DeHoff (9-10-year-old girls butterfly, backstroke and short freestyle) and Garrett Campbell (15-and-older boys butterfly, backstroke and short freestyle).
Minnich added a win in the long freestyle, and Creed Beiswanger was first in the long freestyle and backstroke.
Picking up victories in single events were Alex Miller, Jaxson DeHoff, Maddy Snow and Vivienne Kunkler.
