Kiwanis wins Willie Mays title
Strong hitting from Cody Rowles helped Portland Kiwanis edge out PG-14 9-8 in the Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division championship game Wednesday.
Kiwanis finished the day with 12 hits, compared to only seven from PG-14.
Rowles notched two triples and two doubles for a total of four RBIs. Bryce Wenk helped with a double, single and one RBI. Sylas Wenk recorded two base hits and an RBI and Carter Barton, Gavin Young, Austin Curtis and Cole Carpenter all had base hits.
PG-14’s offense was led by Ryne Goldsworthy, who scored an inside-the-park home run and had a double, another base hit and had two RBIs. Tony Wood added a double, one base hit and two RBIs, and Maddox Huffman had a triple, one base hit and one RBI.
Therapeutics wins
Jay County Therapeutics captured the Minor League softball championship Wednesday night with a 14-9 win over Crossroads.
Mallory Winner led the Jay County Therapeutics offense by going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Brenna Baily, Laci McGinnis, Savannah Lugar, Brianna Zorn, Paige Ingram and Tessa Miller all had a single.
Crossroads players Riah Champ, Braylee VanSkyock, Madison Reier, Ellie Wendel and Jordan Hutzler all had hits.
Ponderosa edges
Ponderosa won the Portland Junior League Rookie division championship Wednesday night in a high-scoring affair against Pak-A-Sak.
The final score reflected strong offense from both teams, with Ponderosa edging out a one-run win, 18-17. Pak-A-Sak had 30 hits and Ponderosa had 27.
For Ponderosa, Gavin Byrum and Nick Snow led the offense by going 5-for-5 at bat.
Alex Miller of Pak-A-Sak also had a hit at every at bat for his team.
