Girls tankers get win, boys tie

BLUFFTON — Jay County’s middle school girls swim team picked up yet another victory on Thursday.
The boys finished in a tie.
The girls won all swimming events, moving to 5-0 on the year with a 96-80 victory over the Bluffton Tigers, while the boys dipped to 1-3-1 after being locked up with the Tigers at 92.5 points apiece.
Mara Bader, Lillian Clemmons and Eliza Bader each won two individual races. Mara Bader took the 200-meter freestyle in 2 minutes, 35.98 seconds, and added a win in the 400 freestyle in 5:32.09. Clemmons was victorious in the 100 individual medley in 1:19.97 and claimed the top spot in the 100 breaststroke in 1:31.96. Eliza Bader handled the 50 butterfly (31.18 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:14.59) events.
Also earning individual victories were Ashlyn Dow (50 freestyle – 29.62) and Rieley Brewster (100 free – 1:11.97).
Elayna Paro joined Mara Bader, Clemmons and Dow to win the 200 medley relay in 2:22.62, then teamed with Brewster and the Bader sisters to win the 300 freestyle in 3:29.48.

HARTFORD CITY — East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team earned two victories on Thursday in a three-team meet at Blackford.
The Chiefs defeated McCullough (Marion) by a 36-24 margin, then knocked off host Blackford 17-6.
Patrick Hemmelgarn, Caden Ridenour and Dakota Lairson each pinned their opponents from McCullough. Blaine Daniels, Riley Huftel and Roman Bravo each won by major decision. Daniels won 13-0, Huftel 11-2 and Bravo 8-0.
Against Blackford, Daniels earned a 15-0 tech fall. Mason Ludy and Lairson each won by pin.
