As a sophomore in high school, Sawyer Miller finished among the best in the state.
During the same year of his collegiate career, Miller was amidst the tops in the nation.
Miller, a 2015 South Adams High School graduate, earned All-America honors as he placed seventh in the NAIA wrestling national championships Saturday.
The sophomore helped the Warriors finish fifth with a team score of 59.5 points. Grand View won with 211.5 points, Lindsey Wilson was second with 74.5 points and Campbellsville placed third with 64.5 points.
Miller, who entered the tournament ranked sixth, won his first two 125-pound matches to earn All-America honors. He defeated Olson Delisca of Southeastern 18-12 and outlasted No. 11 Andrew McFarland of Briar Cliff 17-11 in the second round. Miller lost to third-ranked Troy Lakin of Menlow 6-5 in the quarterfinal before rebounding with a 4-2 decision over Midland’s Hugo Perez.
The three-time IHSAA state medalist then fell by a 5-2 decision to No. 10 Keegan Hessler of Morningside before ending his season with a 1-0 victory over eighth-ranked Mason Naifeh of Oklahoma City.
Miller ends his sophomores season with a 19-5 record.
Elijah Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2014
Set a new career-high in scoring for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in a 100-69 loss to Ashland in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament semifinal on Saturday.
Kahlig was 8-for-13 from the field, including a 2-for-5 effort from long range, and made all seven of hisfree throw attempts to finish with a game-high 25 points. He also had two assists, one rebound and a steal for the NCAA Division II No. 25 Oilers (23-6), who will meet No. 19 Southern Indiana in the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament on Saturday.

Competed for the University of the Cumberlands women’s swim team in the NAIA national championships March 1 through Saturday.
Smeltzer anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed sixth Thursday. She joined Brittany Litke, MariaNogueira and Dasha Korostina to finish with a time of 1 minute, 39 seconds.
She kicked off the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday that capped the meet with a sixth-place finish in 3:36.93, teaming with Nicole Ceausu, ChristinaKlouda and Litke.
The sophomore swam the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay, joining Tara Maletin, Klouda and Litke to place 11th in 1:51.8.

Was perfect from 3-point range Wednesdayin the University of St. Francis men’s basketball team’s victory in the opening round of the NAIA tournament.
Comer hit each of his three attempts from long distance and was 6-of-10 from the field overall as he tallied 17 points in the Cougars’ 100-92 win over Oregon Tech. He also had two rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes of play.
No. 4 seed USF (23-10) will play in the second round of the tournament against No. 1 seed Cornerstone (31-3) at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Will compete for the University of Saint Francis cheerleading team in the NAIA Cheer & Dance National Championships on Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Ostrowski, a sophomore, and Miller, a freshman, helped the Cougars’ cheer team finish third in the East Regional qualifier Saturday at Siena Heights University. Saint Francis scored 23.37 in the preliminaries, before posting a 70.08 in the finals for a total of 93.44.
Davenport scored 95.18 to win, followed by Concordia University, which also totaled 93.44 but scored higher in the finals to edge USF, which earned an at-large bid to the national championships.
Competition in Oklahoma City begins approximately 7:45 p.m.

Played for the Bethel College baseball team as it swept Lawrence Tech in a doubleheader on Saturday.
The junior was hitless with a walk and scored a run in the Pilots’ 6-4 win in game one. He was 1-for-5 with a walk and a pair of strikeouts as the Pilots (9-1) completed the sweep with a 15-0 victory.
Affolder is batting .382, leads the team with 13 runs and 15 RBIs. He has three doubles, a triple and a home run.

Recorded a save in his collegiate debut for the Edison State baseball team as it defeated Milwaukee Tech on Sunday, 6-2.
Hobbs pitched three innings of relief, scattered two hits, walked one and struck out four to preserve a 3-2 lead at the time. His Charger team (2-0) provided him three extra runs of support during the sixth inning.

Racked up five hits for the Brescia University softball team in a pair of victories over Cumberlands on March 2.
The shortstop had three hits and one run in the Bearcats’ 2-1 victory in game one, then added two singles, two RBIs and a run as the Bearcats (3-9) completed the sweep with a 9-6 win.
Dunn is batting .400 with eight hits, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base in seven games.

Made his collegiate pitching debut for the Wabash College baseball team in a 9-6 loss Sunday to Aurora University.
Jacks tossed one inning of relief. He allowed one hit, one earned run and walked three. He faced seven batters and struck out one for the Little Giants (4-3).
