ANDERSON — Jay County High School’s track team completed its indoor season Saturday in the Patriot Invitational it hosted at Anderson University.
The Patriot girls placed in the top 10 in eight events, and the JCHS boys had one top-10 finish.
Lucy Laux turned in a pair of top-six finishes. The junior was the runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 0.5 inches, and was sixth in the 60-meter dash in 8.45 seconds. Kendal Garringer and Audrey Shreve both tied for fourth in high jump with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches. Calli Stigleman finished 10th in the 60 dash in 8.62 seconds
The 4x800 relay team of Erika Kunkler, Olivia Kunkler, Gabby Kunkler and Kendra Muhlenkamp was seventh in 10 minutes, 37 seconds. Erika Kunkler, Gwen Omstead, Taylor Homan and Kelsey Burden combined to finish seventh in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:28. The 4x200 relay team of Hanna Dillon, Laux, Stigleman and Muhlenkamp was eight in 1:57.35.
Andrew Trewyn cleared a height of 5 feet, 10 inches, in the high jump to place third. He was also 11th in shot put with a distance of 42 feet, 2 inches.
Archery teams qualify
INDIANAPOLIS — All three archery teams from Jay County qualified for nationals based on their performance Saturday in the National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament at Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The national tournament will be May 11 through 13 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jay County High School totaled 3,258 points to finish 18th overall. Hunter Harrison led the Patriots with a score of 288. Gabe Blankenship was second on the team with 281, Lillian Trinidad was third with 281 and Dustin Bricker was fourth for the Patriots with 278. Keith Hartley rounded out the top five scoring Patriots with a total of 269.
West Jay’s squad scored 3,116 to place 17th, and East Jay was 27th with 3,043.
Top five individual scorers for West Jay were Tucker Corwin (274), Kaley Young (274), Kaidi Brunson (265), Lizzie Dollar (260) and Paige Mumbower (258).
The top 10 performers for East Jay included Michaela Stith (277), Karlie Harris (258), Haleigh Clayton (257), Brock Dehoff (255) and Aaron Wittwer (253).
Tribe swimmers honored
Seven Fort Recovery High School swimmers were recognized by the Lima Area Swim Coaches Association this morning.
Sophomore Cassy Martin and Sophie Timmerman earned all-Lima Area honors. Junior Alexis Bubp was given special mention, and senior Faith Hull earned honorable mention.
Junior Harrison Kaup, as well as sophomores Robby LeFevre and Nolan Thobe earned honorable mention.
